They are reporting at least 70 dead and over 200 injured. 75-100 homes destroyed. A nursing home was one of the buildings in the path of explosion.

Fertilizer plants are super capable of fires and explosions like this from the smallest things. Saw something on Rock Center recently about safety at industrial plants - specifically dust in the air that can explode, microscopic shards of metal, other flammables. OSHA knows there are hundreds of plants with issues but not enough manpower to make changes.
A tiny fire of explosion at a fertilizer plant of all places has an easy chance of getting out of control.
- Same risk at plants that process flour and grain...WrappedInBooks
- with added nitrate!hans_glib

McVeigh used fertilizer, killed 140 something people.
Fertilizer plan explodes, kills what sure looks like a lot depending on how many people working there.
2 dopes in Boston use a crock pot and some bb's, 3 people dead. Obviously if you're trying to kill people, dunno, FERTILIZER might be on order??? Terrorist fail.
- That video of the plant looks like a nuclear explosion. Hardcore!CygnusZero4
- Go out and try buy enough fertizilizer for a bomb - report back with how you get on.detritus
- Also, there's possibly a wee bit more fertilizer in that factory there than you could fit in a cooking pot.detritus
