25 days paid in Germany, plus public holidays. Which is far and away a better deal than I ever got in Canada, before moving to Europe.

@ capn_ron only one week?
What if get seriously ill like MS or cancer? does the gov cover that if you arent be able to work?- no. If you get sick over 5 days, you have to use your vacation until it runs out and then you don't get paid.capn_ron
- when it comes to a serious sickness like cancer or MS I don't know if insurance kicks in.capn_ron
- That goes into long-term disability which varies depending on insurance and such.hereswhatidid

paid vacations happen if you're with a company (sometimes +28hrs) for a bit over 6 months.
- had 2 (they accrue) weeks + unlimited sick days. BKNYohhhhhsnap

In the US, you get a salary and are allowed to take two weeks off plus some sick days and not have anything happen to that salary.

In the UK by law it's 28 days, but this can include bank holidays by employer discretion, and it usually does in most places.

Every, single, person I know working in the US (respectable business) gets 22 days, plus 2 more (flex holidays).
- I also get unlimited sick days plus flexible work arrangements (from home) whenever.monospaced

Just out of curiosity... if you're a minimum wage worker in the UK or EU, fresh out of school, at some piece of shit place like a fast food joint, do you really get 20+ days mandatory?
- yupsureshot
- ps but you have to work like 6/7 months to build you vacation days up. In Holland its 2 per month. (fulltime)sureshot
- even working at fucking Mickey D's.sureshot
- I know it's not mandatory in the US, but we're basically the same if you have a salary job.monospaced

I'm a freelancer and I do mostly short contract. no such a thing as vacation for me. I wouldn't know what to do with a vacation if I have one... working is the only life I know. T_T
