I guess the MP is to allow for a versatile zoom/image manipulation experience. Come on, it's pretty cool...and a smart strategy.
- SO SMART. MEGAPIXELS WILL KILL THE COMPETITION!monospaced

I assume you're being sarcastic, mono? It's not about the MP, it's about the ability to take shitty pictures and zoom, manipulate image in nearly infinite ways without losing quality.
- he IS being sarcastic...pango
- I think 41 megapixels is an absolute scam. It's impractical too, and there's no good "strategy" at allmonospaced
- I don't think you get it.monkeyshine

strange... how is the low light / high ISO performance? supposedly better than some.. but I'd rather have 2 megapixels at ISO 125000 than 41 megapixels at ISO 800 before grain sets in.... it does supposedly have a xenon flash, like a "real camera" but it's direct, no apparent way to bounce it except maybe hand-made aluminum foil and such....
and....
41 mp for 90% instagram and facebook use = ?!?

From what I've read about in the various forums since the first Nokia phone releaased with this tech (what, a year ago now?) this is actually aimed, at an appreciated by, proper photogoraphers.
it's obviously not intended as a replacement for an SLR or a realy good point'n'click - but if you're going to be carrying a phone in your pocket anyway, why not get one with a half decent camera?
Those of you mocking the "More pixels = bettererest" conceit miss the point in that all those pixels are aggregated to create a 'normal size' photo with a typical number of pixels but with better light and colour saturation and detail. ALSO has the benefit of allowing a user to fritz around with zoom modes and such, post pic - but I think that side of things is more towards the FB/Instagram crowd.
- "aimed at, and appreciated by" even, ffs.detritus

I think 41 is a little crazy, my D800 fills my cards and hard drives fast enough!
But I am excited to see what the quality and control is like. This definitely makes replacing point and shoots a no brainer (the handle accessory/case looks like a great idea for control, I can't stand trying to hold my iPhone to take pics).
I like the yellow, too, but would never own it. I'll probably change my mind as soon as I see 20 in once place in public...flash backs from the 80's would surely follow!

extra megapixels are pretty useless since 99.99% of pics will get uploaded to FB and instagram.
curious about the low-light abilities though.

how much storage does it have....41mp has to be huge photos
- hektor9110
wow 41mp... i hope that cell phone function works.
- pango0
LOL what are people gonna do with all that 40MP?!?!? for Facebook and shit you only need 2 or 3 MP. 10 to 12 MP for a decent 8x10" print. unless they just want to test it out and use that technology for future development and product.

41MP on a sensor the size of a Tic-Tac. Pure marketing ploy. No thanks.
- monospaced0
EVERYBODY SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!!! Don't you know that it's more pixels that makes the phone better?
- Hombre_Lobo0
Haha 41mp is ridiculous.
It will just work for their marketing as lesser informed people assume 'more megapixel = better'!They should focus on producing better pictures at 8/12/16mp.
Also 99% of the time, the higher res the sensor the more prone to noise it will be, so I hope they've got some new tech to combat that.If it takes great pics I'm happy!

Pretty interestin. Suppose to also give you alot more control like a dslr too. Probably great for Chicago Sun Times. Didnt nokia alreayd use this sensor on like a 908 or something. Im in the us and the model wasnt sold so never really heard how well it worked, jsut recalled the headlines of the 41MP

My Nikon D800 is only 36MP. Guess I'll be trading it in for this phone.
- akrok0
typo. they forgot the period. sorry. lol. 4.1MP
- lvl_130
amazing what a lens can pick up now-a-days. the lens smaller than a contact has got to produce amazing results!!

impressive. carl zeiss lens.

not really sold on the idea of 41 MP. maybe this is just a market testing. i'm assuming the price will be a bit high and if successful a cheaper version and 20.1 MP will come out shortly. i would think if they make it easy for lens adapter (like what iphone has with 3rd party but by nokia) it would sell even better. since they are obviously going for people who would to go crazy with the camera feature.
