Hey Everyone,
I've been working on this project with a fellow QBN member (wordddds) and a few others for about a year now.
We just released v1.1 which was a huge update. I think it deserves a new thread, as a lot has changed. I will be posting all future updates in this thread.
It would be great to get some feedback from the design community!

We're looking for talented people to go out and document areas they find interesting within the city of Chicago. Festival, events, concerts, landmarks, restaurants, fashion, etc... -- whatever interests you the most. This is a paying freelance job. Rates will be discussed after initial interview process.
Our new app, Spott Messenger, allows you to quickly and easily create a public "feed" at any location. However, we realize that the app is nothing without great content -- much like having a TV with no channels.
Requirements include:
- Strong sense of design / composition
- Strong writing skills
- Strong social media knowledge / background
- Currently living in Chicago, IL
- iPhone 4+
- iOS 6.0+If interested, please reply via email () with the subject line "Spott Messenger". Please include your name, links to any relevant social media accounts (Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Yelp, personal blog, etc...), and a short message to why you would be a great fit for the job.

Just curious how this plays with the trademark that the Spot Messenger GPS devices hold (the Globalstar company) http://www.findmespot.com/en/ind…
Love the idea, but was super confused at first since I thought it dealt with Spot's API or something...

Interesting, I haven't seen that product before. I'm assuming if any of this takes off there will be coming out of the woodwork to sue. I've seen a lot of similar ideas, names, etc... It's a race to the top. :)

We were just featured in a very niche Canadian podcast :)

Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Well what was suppose to be a few weeks turned out to be a few months — lol.
We just pushed Spott Messenger v1.2 to the App Store for review! Redesigned around iOS7 and a over a year of iterations. Here's where we're at now...
Spott Messenger's intuitive location-based search allows you to easily find and follow relevant news, events, and information as it happens.

What's your plan to monetize it?
- rosem0
Originally it was to sell featured Spotts that show up differently on the map, and at the top of the new feeds — sort of like a paid listing.
Spotts also have a limited life, their lifespan relies on messages to keep them "alive". I think there is room for monetization there, as companies will want a Spott to promote their company and receive feedback (like a comment box), but will not want to do the work required to keep it on the map.
Although, after this version, I'm see a big opportunity in content delivery, especially with new outlets and that might be another route we think about.

Really with a user base there are a number of options.
The great advantage we have over other messaging apps is that our focus is not a private conversation between you and your friends and family. Which can be very hard to monetize, and it's why a lot of apps are now selling stickers.
Our focus is on public conversations, that will usually center around a business, event, etc... which I believe is much easier to monetize.
