Annoyingly twee, symmetrical sets. Self-regarding "humour" so subtle it isn't funny. Words, words fucking everywhere. Twee. Relentless WHIMSY! Ugh, piss off, Wes Anderson.

- I don't think twee means what you think it means.marychain
- Twee, as in over-sentimental/maw... I think it means what I think it does, pleb lad.eoin
- monospaced, what are you trying to say?eoin
- It's odd that I find such contrived mise-en-scène irritating, monospaced? Is that it?eoin
- chill out... I was just joking how moldero's comment was just words in symmetrymonospaced
- Sorry, I'm a little stressed at the moment.eoin

Liked it for the mythical european lore angle, disliked it for making it feel like a japanese inspector layton game plot, the deadpan works but I miss some darkness and masculinity in his movies, there, I said it, I'm done with the little kids and their wonky acting lately too

I am not a Wes Anderson fan - but I thought it was pure pleasure - also sneakily deep.
Ralph Fiennes was great.

Absolutely loved this film, I was all set to be underwhelmed after expecting a lot, but it didn't disappoint. Just beautiful, amazing attention to detail, and Ralph Fiennes is so great it feels like he was missing from previous WA movies.

great, not as good as royal tenebaums, but not far behind.

Ill give it a watch. I cant stand these kinds of goofy directors anymore. Theres so many of them with their quirkly style and every movie is like "omg look how quirky and creative I am! Im so edgy!"
Its so trendy now that its actually a relief to watch just a normal movie from a normal director not from some goon.
