I honestly didn't know what these were as they just
"looked interesting" but it was a stunning score of R&B
    and Funk 7"s yesterday

the lady in the shop said they came in Saturday, so they had
been picked through a few times - took a punt and bought them
    all at 3 for a £1

    • Sick. Got a higher red image? Looks like there are some good ones therescruffics
    • best of the lot was Tony Middleton & Bobby Matos 'Return To Spanish Harlem' = monster!Gardener

There are only a couple on at weekends now
but I have still turned up some car booty.

I picked up a tatty paper sleeve version of this a few years ago
but this is the original front laminated proper sleeve comrades.

Released in an oversized sleeve this 7" was released to
raise funds to save the steelworks, it must have been partly
successful but it finally closed down in 1980.

He only released 2 singles and this was one, the other
was a Save Corby Steelworks EP both released in 1979.

A pair of Crossbow EP's featuring Merseyside bands
    The Layabouts and The Ravers.

This Power Pop single came with a free 5" one sided
flexi-disc which had the lyrics printed on the rear.

I paid £2 each for these American 78's from the 1930's

I took a punt on this as I got to the boot late and there were
a lot of Wombles records left in a box along with this which
took my eye due to the Joe Boyd production credit on the rear,
it turns out to be pretty scarce.

The TV series albums turn up quite often but I hadn't
come across the original movie soundtrack before.

One I got for the sleeve -
"I say young Matador, can you tell me the way to the cantina?"

got me some nice finds these past few weeks including
some space related vinyl I didn't already have

dialogue & music from the film with narration by the
actor Roscoe Lee Browne, nice g/f sleeve with booklet

in the same box was this 12" - not quite sure who
the production team were, in house?

another space movie s/t - this one is narrated by
BG star Lorne Greene (top right middle)

not space related but a cover version comp from 1968
which has a version of Light My Fire I'd not heard before

the only compilation of Sweet I'll probably ever need

I initially thought this was related to the Harlem Globetrotters
but it turns out to be a sexy French spoken word record

I thought this would be as peaceful as the sleeve claimed
but it turns into a full on sarod battle, first released in 1971
    on 2 different labels

in a box of LP's at the auction was the motherlode of early 70's kiddie singles

  • Gardener0

with the car boots pretty much down for the winter I have
been charity shop digging - and turned up some nice albums

an old BBC compilation of SFX from Big Ben's chimes
to Morris Men dancing recorded in 1969

a nr mint UK copy from 1971 but it's not as collectable as it used to be

I was curious about Beatles covers and the Pop-Art sleeve
on the Shades Of Today LP and inside the other one I
discovered this original UK programme from 1958

smooth cheesy listening of yesterday erm, today

A plain white sleeve is always of interest to me and the only clue
as to the mystery disc within was the label address on the rear
    at the bottom.

turns out to be a music exam disc - Simon & Garfunkel
are the only popular artist in the C.S.E. questions

a bunch of other music/schools related discs in the same 50p box

but the nicest find of the week was this obscure Australian Jazz
album from 1965 by pianist Judy Bailey which I took a £1 punt on

  • Gardener0

picked this LP up with some other odds n ends from the 50p
bins, mainly for it's inner sleeve - I'm a sucker for a good inner!

I never knew Rod McKuen made so many records - 219 albums!
    https://www.discogs.com/artist/2…

I'd love to come across a copy of this one day

LP finds this week - most came from a box won at a local auction

released on Verve Records in 1968

This was in along with a whole lot of 60's Jazz - there were
other comedy albums by Noel Coward, Joyce Grenfell etc.

Most of the Jazz vinyl look near mint, the box had pretty much
every Ella Fitzgerald and Wes Montgomery LP ever made in it.

a sweet 50p charity shop find this morning!

In with the Jazz were these great BBC albums along with their inserts

along with this pair of American comedy records

best find of the week was this beauty lurking in a box of Clapton and Eurythmics albums

I wasn't quite aware of quite how good it was until I saw the reliable Mushroom label

    • I’d have grabbed that Mult Jackson too. Bossscruffics

bits from all over the place -on trips to Stoke, Milton Keynes
and hmmm, wait for it.... Kent

3 for a fiver seemed a good deal from a market stall in Newcastle Under Lyme

3 x flexis one of which had sadly been cut out into the shape
of an actual record, the music on these postcard flexis is by
The Barry Gray Quintet who also recorded music for TV's
    Century 21 imprint.

One market stall had a massive £1 box and I dug out a
few gems including this curious single from 1964 which
has connections to The Goons and may be the missing
link between The Bonzo's and The Temperance Seven

a pretty amazing charity shop find in a town down south,
it looks unplayed and a shame there was only one...

another charity shop find, this was a Rock N' Roll EP given
away by Mr C - he's an old greaser who I have met a few times
    at record fairs

I have the original 78 of this somewhere but this is the probably*
really scarce 7" from 1961 (*not)

signed, white vinyl, gate-fold with a booklet and in a 50p bin

  • Gardener0

I picked up a great selection of Slim Disc flexis with some
lovely discs inside an A4 folder, the blue/red sleeved discs
both duplicates and are a mixture of classical music and
    spoken word

    2 x card flexis's

    • just to let you know I have been approached about a book on flexi discs - more news when I know moreGardener

Various bits and bobs at the re-use centre today
including this which I'd not seen or heard of before.

I picked up a bunch of Xian Folk the other week from a
shop closing down and went back for a few more as some
turned out to be really nice and pretty scarce too,
Christ knows how I missed these ones

this one really hit the spot when I was chilling in my cave
Sunday afternoon, a local group it seems as there was a
concert programme inside the sleeve too.

hidden inside another LP was this flexi-disc, which turns out
to have a Christian story on it, not sure it came with the LP
    that I found it in

This LP turned out to be good, a compilation of old
    Listen & Move E.P.'s (I think I have a few somewhere)

I could find nothing out about this album version, it's unrelated
to the scarce Daphne Oram record below, I think...

These picture discs were lurking in a charity shop bin,
I'm a sucker for these even though the sound quality can be iffy.

I won a box of albums at an auction recently and flicking
through the ones I fancied I came across a couple of nice
inner sleeves which took my eye. It prompted me to dig into
my racks to see what other pretty inners I could find and here
are some I'd like to share.

UK mid 70's advertising - this one was in a hits compilation

    Pye mid 60's + poly-lined

Pye early 60's with LP's on one side EP's on the flip

Mid 70's vinyl cleaning products available at Wollies -
a bit tatty but a keeper

Ciggie advertising from an Indian album

Lovely late 50's/early 60's US inner for Liberty Records

This is probably my favourite inner - US London/Deram from the late 60's

    • keep your eye on pye!hans_glib
    • i'm curious - do you buy these records to listen to, or because they are interesting objects?hans_glib

bits + bobs found out + about

The eternal question is finally answered
and it involves Wagner and volcanoes.

Fully signed (I have to assume as there were 5 of them,
I checked, one signed it twice) debut 7" by Dorset's finest

A suitably grim sleeve for this Rob Wyatt 7" I'd not seen before.

I picked up several original cast soundtracks from
the 60's in an auction lot like this one.

This beautiful blue vinyl LP which comes with the full
book of the title inside the gate-fold was a kind present.

Some nice Library records found in charity shop bins
mixed in with the classical records which is why I assume
    they were still there.

One extreme to the other, 3 of these albums were in the same box!

    From Summer Camp in 1972

    to Concentration Camp in 1945

    spoken word in 1975

    Thrash metal madness in 1988

I couldn't resist this 50p CD lurking in the racks

including a nice pair of Trunks

lovely music from the early 70's TV show

    so remember these well

    guitar duel inna classical stylee

some kids story EP's on HMV from the 60's
including a great electronic one by Daphne Oram

"a joint initiative" anti-drugs release by Milton Keynes coppers

    a 50p flexi - I bought 2 (for some reason...)

as if I didn't have enough bloody records already

    • most of what you end up with really is esoteric garbage, to put it mildly. not that that's a bad thing, mind.

but i'm dead jealous of the br announcement lp,

had a fine win at the auction yesterday, there were lots
of Library records, mostly Chappell & KPM along with
an eclectic mix of music from literally all around the world,
these were the pick of the bunch

    India

    China

    Japan

    Africa

    Ireland

    America

I found this hardly ever used lovely old record cleaning thing
which was meant to be used on 78's but I certainly never will,
it's actually quite soft on the bristles though and is a thing of beauty.

French album of Portuguese guitar music -
alright love cheer up, it's not that bad.

One of Lenny's old stand-up shows released in 1974
on Phil Spector's own label, Bill Hicks must have been a fan.

Billy Butlin eating a childs hand on the front of this LP from 1971.

Late 60's folk album which could easily pass for a
    Belle & Sebastian sleeve.

He didn't make many records but the flip of his debut is one of his best.

I can only assume 'hilarious boners' meant something else in the 60's.

I can't help picking up these promo advertising discs
and although this one features ABBA & M*A*S*H on
one side, it does have the dreaded New Seekers
doing a hits medley on the flip.

Best find of the week by some distance was this 7"
I'd never even seen a RZ demo in the wild before
and luckily I had an original company sleeve for it,
I do have a box especially for such occasions.

    like I need any more, I still couldn't resist these 50p CD's.

    • i have to stop looking at this thread. i managed to wean myself off crate digging and you're re-scratching that itch.hans_glib
