Love the house above. $320/sf steel construction, no shipping container there.
$150/sf would get you a decent home today (granite counters, basic wood floors, etc.). That covers standard stick construction, prefab and shipping containers. The pros/cons to each end up being a personal choice in the end (and location matters, too).
There's no "cheap" way to have something cool, unfortunately.

^ The Grand Designs Northern Ireland guys house was beautiful.
My favourite part is the window in the corridor that looks out onto the rockface behind.

just searched for the average price of a container. They sell pretty cheap actually, like 1000€ - 2500€ depending on the condition.
