Anyone in here is using OwnCloud?
OwnCloud is a free open source apps and system exactly like Dropbox but you install it yourself on your own server or at an hosting company of your choice.
The "problem" is many hosting companies wont let you use their servers for clouding because it would slow down the server.
Iam looking for hosting service who would let me use it.

So basically its a self hosted non-cloud?

you have two option, hosting your cloud on you own server or choosing a hosting service. Reasons for that is you dont want to pay for more space on Dropbox and the chances that you get hacked are super low compare to a popular service like Dropbox.

iam still analysing all that. I tought i could use OwnCloud with Bluehost, where I already pay for hosting for my website. But they let me know they dont accept clouding on shared servers because it would slow down the servers.

and having your own server at home is kinda useless.. if your house explode, you lose your computer and all your backup on your server at the same time

Why would hosting companies not let you use their servers to upload your own files?

@reanimate
because clouding with an app like Dropbox, in this case OwnCloud, is always updating files on the server (upload-download) .. lot of bandwidth. And hosting for websites are often shared servers, if everyone start to cloud on the servers, that will slowdown everything. So, many hosting companies are starting to offer 'clouding services'. But i didnt find anything interesting yet.

they told me they will notice if I install OwnCloud and disable it.

Arvixe is offering clouding options to use OwnCloud, but only 10gb or 100gb ... i wanted more : https://www.arvixe.com/order.php…
And it cost something... I wanted to put my OwnCloud at the same place as my websites are hosted.
Well...

You can rent a dedicated server instead of shared hosting but it cost more.
Something like this would probably allow it:

Finally i asked Bluehost and they say its ok to install OwnCloud on my server :)
So the server iam using for my website will also become my own private ''Dropbox'' with the same syncing features as the real Dropbox. With like 1,5Tb of space.
Fuk the system
