Any QBNer's living/working there?
Been offered a job and would like hearing from some ex pats or anyone that can give me a quick run down on lifestyle etc.

I stayed there only a couple of months but I loved Singapore.
As for the lifestyle it depends of what you want ; if you want to live in modern and expensive condos, and spend most of your time in high class restaurant etc...and stay only with the other overpaid expats then it will be expensive and just like if you were in any other city. If you live more like a local, get a room in a HDB, eat at food courts and have everyone's activities, then it's cheap and pretty great.

hey! Have a 2 night stop over in Singapore on the way back from a surf trip in a few months and have no idea where to stay etc. Most of the hotels seem very business orientated.
Not looking for anything fancy, but not a hostel either. In a rad area where we can just walk around and eat n drink n be merry. Some of the rooftop hotels look awesome but wonder if they just corporate vibe areas. Any recommendations much appreciated!

I've only been to Singapore a few times but the Clark Quay neighborhood has a lot of bars and restaurants and is not too far from the main downtown with the big tourist sights. Four star hotel in that area probably around $100-150 USD.
Keep in mind Singapore is fairly small and has great public transport, so no matter where you stay you won't be too far from everything...

The only QBN'r I've met in real life (funkage) lives in Singapore. Quality bloke. Says it's real sweaty and expensive, but he seems to like it there.

found this rather nice looking place - lloyd's inn
'Located off Killiney Road in a quiet residential area, Lloyd's Inn is a short walk to the heart of Orchard Road.'
bit of a different looking place, guess we are after something that feels bit unique, not just any business hotel anywhere in the world

Born and bred in SG, happy to entertain questions. Obviously, I can't give you the expat perspective since I'm not one but I could ask a co-worker or two.
- would prefer local vibe! where to eat? must see n do?where_am_i

Things to do...
Kaya toast for breakfast, google will help you find the original ones, but even Toast Box chain is good.
Botanical gardens if you like tropical plants, but avoid middle of the day it gets super hot.
Cocktail at Raffles, old colonial outpost, you throw the peanut shells on the floor. Bit of a dorky business man type of place, but if it's your first time it's good to tick it off the list and get a feel for the old colonial era.
Coffee/chill time at Tiong Bahru Bakery cafe, in Tiong Bahru neighbourhood. You can wander around the neighbourhood, couple of arty/design things around there.
also "Chye Seng Huat Hardware" is a good cafe: http://www.cshhcoffee.com
A jog along east coast park in the evening could be a good alternative to drinking.
Tonnes of great eats in Singapore for all budget ranges.
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh 11 New Bridge Road - is good for it's pork ribs in broth.
If you're interested in the history of Singapore, this extensive podcast series is excellent: http://thehistoryofsingapore.com…

Regarding the food, try a chicken rice. On paper it might sound very plain, but it's absolutely delicious.

Old Airport Road foodcourt is considered one of the best in Singapore and very local. I used to eat there regularly, hope it still exists.
