Urban Outfitters Now the Top Seller of Vinyl
http://www.pastemagazine.com/art…

^^^ - Oh, and what really sucks about Urban Outfitters is that they sell a lot of great records, and only sell shitty Crossly record players that no one in their right mind should buy, because the cartridges are shit, and they destroy records.

2 x 1210s (US versions) - the blacktop bla bla and a vestax mixer, i was all about turntablism more so than just beat matching.
Qbert stuff - one time my friend (promoter) 10 years ago brought Qbert out to Denver I helped set up lights etc was coolest day of my young life.
Without a doubt the most insane live turntablism performance I ever saw was with Mixmaster Mike of Beastie Boys - a fucking monster!!!

Anyone here make vinyl. Just manufactured my first 250. I used Pirates Press for 180g vinyl. I really like how the low ends sound. Anyone have any experiences to share about manufacturers you've used. I've heard not so great things from the quality at United Record Pressing.

Anyone else pick this up?
Figured it was the best way I could get into them. The records sound absolutely amazing. Totally silent, mono sounds great although not being a big Beatles fan before I don't have much reference. I need to do a side-by-side listening of the mono Revolver and stereo Revolver, because I have both.
- I already have all the older pressings. However, I have a mono and stereo of Rubber Soul.DRIFTMONKEY
- The mono is so much better, it's ridiculous.DRIFTMONKEY
- I already have most of them as hand me downs from my parents but I'd love to here the fresh vinyl.fooler

Been thinking of picking up a turntable just for listening to music at home. My wife really wants one for some reason, and I love audio equipment. I used to play around with turntables back in the '90s rave days, but never considered them for my home audio seeing as everything was more convenient in a digital format.
Anyway, I am perfectly aware that it's easy to spend thousands on an audiophile's wet dream of a system, but I'm not really into that. What's a good-sounding, entry-level turntable for home use that is entry-level priced?
I'm looking at units as cheap as the Audio-Technica LP60 ($99) up to their LP120 ($299), as well as the Orbit Basic ($179) and Orbit Plus ($299). If anyone has any advice, that would be cool.
- Entry level Pro-Ject, Rega or Music Hall. LP120 is not a bad choice, but for a few bucks more, you could do much better in that price range.DRIFTMONKEY
- Verdict still out on Orbit, but you have to go through some effort to change between 33 and 45. They do seem like a good deal though.DRIFTMONKEY
- Numark PT01 Scratch and get yourself some 7" scratch vinyl. You'll have more fun than you can handle ... plus you can play other vinyl ;)microkorg
- Spend a bit more to upgrade your cartridge. Ortofon blue.DRIFTMONKEY
- Do you have an integrated amp? You'll need a receiver with phono otherwise, or you can buy a separate pre amp.DRIFTMONKEY
- I have no interest in "scratching." Just listening to music :)monospaced
- I have a top-of-the-line A/V receiver and speakers, so all I need is a good turntable. I'll check out the other options listed here.monospaced
- Also looks like many new models have pre-amps built in, knowing most people don't have their own pre-ams like I do.monospaced
- hans_glib1
- I looked at those, but they are almost TOO minimal, like the Orbit. I know automatic features can compromise sound, but I actually want those features.monospaced
- This is very similar to the orbit, both with straight tone arms and small counterweights, minimal design and operation, etc. Same price too.monospaced

Got some money last month and despite having a Risograph as my top priority and a Tattoo machine in my wish list...what did I do?
I bought me two second hand Technics SL1200 and a Vestax PMC-V Pro III Battle Mixer to pick up where I left ten years ago...turntablism.
In the last month I spent around 700€ in gear and all concerts I went I bought some records.
Last two:
From my good friend Alex Figueira's band
And from these amazing Amsterdam kidos

Being a new homeowner, I'm considering this as a potential living room obsession. Been eyeballing the Project Carbons.

Hi friends. Coming here for a little vinyl advice...
I used to collect 10-15 years ago and play my stuff on a cheap all-in-1 unit when I didn't know any better.
Took a long hiatus but for better or for worse (and I really can't decide here) I'm back with a vengeance and a rapidly emptying wallet.
I currently have a still-kinda-cheap turntable: Sony ps-lx200h. I bought it used from the owner of my local record store for $50.
It's served me pretty well for a few months, but lately the volume when I play records keeps cutting in and out. It's like normal volume for a while, then cuts down to like 50% volume, or maybe less. Then mysteriously goes back to normal.
I don't think it's the stylus because I've checked it and cleaned it multiple times.
I also don't think it's the cables because I've checked those.
I think the internal pre-amp is fizzling out. Is that a thing that can happen? Unfortunately I can't test for it because I don't have an external pre-amp to run it through.
Regardless, Father's Day is coming up and that'll make a good excuse to upgrade. I've had my eyes on the U-turn Orbit, which I've seen discussed a bit on here.
- is there maybe a switch that cuts out the output when the tone arm is resting?kingsteven
- or is it cutting out on just one side? if the preamp was shitting it entirely it would sound like the bass had been cut out rather than a dip in levelkingsteven
- I went the route of integrated amp to avoid pre amp fizz. Marantz has several price points. Another option to consider.DRIFTMONKEY
- those auto turntables are packed full of switches and all sorts of magic that can go wrong... what's the point in reseting if it cant flip the record over too?kingsteven
- The sound cuts out across both speakers. It's weird. I think my turntable is just old and cheap. Totally agree with the automatic crap that can go wrong.nocomply
- That's my I'm attracted to that super-minimal U-turn one and others that are similar. Less stuff that can break.nocomply
- not positive, but I think the U-Turn and similar models that are super minimal, are more difficult to switch between 33 and 45. No switch. Keep that in mind.DRIFTMONKEY
- No switch, but the belt is easily accessible and it looks pretty easy to do: https://uturnaudio.c…nocomply
- ^ yeah the u-turn is much easier to switch than the pro-ject. got sick of that pretty quickly on mine and bought the external speed switching box.kingsteven

UPDATE:
Well, after buying a new turntable I finally figured out that the problem was actually my speakers!
The pair of Bose computer speakers I was running were faulty and the volume would fluctuate uncontrollably. I looked it up and other people had the same problem, and it looks like there's nothing I can do about it. I hadn't thought to check them because they had worked fine for years.
Kinda weird that they coincidentally crapped out a few months after I moved them from my computer desk to my turntable, but whatever.
But the good news here is that I've upgraded to the U-Turn Orbit and it's pretty rad, or at least it looks rad.
I'm not certain there is a noticeable audio quality upgrade from my old TT, but I'm currently running the stock cartridge so I didn't expect anything crazy.
Changing the speed from 33rpm to 45 is quick and easy. I got the hang of it on my first or second try.
I'm currently playing music through an old, cheap pair of Sony computer speakers (in the picture above) that I got at a thrift store for $1. It works, but sounds way worse than my old Bose speakers.
Next upgrade on the list is a nice pair of active speakers... when I can get away with it.
- get on classifieds, find an old pair of floorstanding or decent bookshelf speakers and order a class t/ class d amp from china. <$100 and you're sorted.kingsteven
- Yeah floorstanding speakers and a full stereo rig is the long term plan. But right now I've got this thing in my bedroom and space is tight.nocomply
- Everything needs to be high up on my dresser or else my kids will destroy it.nocomply
- What about some wee Genelec speakers/monitors. For the size they fucking kick ass and sound so precise!microkorg
