- so weird you see that... it's totally smooth and round on my screenmonospaced
- Also, Dell didn't make consumer products besides OEM PCs and some hardware, so it's not a fair comparison to Apple who does.monospaced
- not seeing that at all either...weird....exador1
- are you using a dell monitor perhaps?JG_LB
- Weird. Are you guys on retina or something? I'm just using a Macbook Air. Some things here don't look very nice.iCanHazQBN
- Nah, no retina.monospaced

- it's 100% free to anyone who's purchased a mac in the last few yearsmonospaced
- Money bro money!organicgrid
- Better than getting windows free and then paying up the ass for updates.monospaced
- all OS's should be free - don't dispute that - just pointing out the costs are built into the expensive machine it runs on.fadein11
- and I have one, and a 2 windows machines, an ios and an android. so purleeease not this shit again.fadein11
- sì, è gratuito.akrok

Anyone using CS5 w/ Yosemite? Any problems?
- ernexbcn0
FYI Safari sends every search query you make to Apple servers
- Please tell me this is just because Yosemite is still in beta.Crack_Junkie
- Yosemite is not on betaernexbcn
- HN discussion https://news.ycombin…ernexbcn
- FYI google sends all your searches through google servers. Boom. Mind blown.monospaced
- < so great apply now as bad as google for datamining - and you make it sound like a positive lolfadein11
- mono well of course, Google is a search engine, Apple is not. Why send your queries to Apple and DuckDuckGo?ernexbcn
- it should go only to DuckDuckGo, OR Google, OR Bing only, according to your preferred search engineernexbcn
- Apple has been in the search game for years. Don't kid yourself my friend.monospaced

"Can you finally duplicate, delete or move files in application file browse windows? Please say yes - this is one thing that needs to happen like Windows."
It won't happen and it shouldn't, because it would conflict with OSX Finder behaviour. In Windows, when moving a folder in application file browse window, you copy or move it. In OSX, it moves you to the folder, I find it much more useful.
Try that: open a file browse window from an app, then move a folder from a regular Finder window into it — voilla, you're now browsing that folder. In Windows, you would have moved it.
- Duplicate/delete could be fine (as recently introduced name editing is), but move/copy won't make sense.raf
- people who are used to an OS tend to hate on the other OS.inteliboy
- Yes yes yes. I LOVE the OS X "drag to navigate to" feature. Use it all the time. Most people don't know about it.nb
- But, they could offer a right-click menu that allows for deleting.nb
- sorry - I have used macs my whole working life (and some windows). duplicating a file, deleting a file or moving files within file browse windows makesfadein11
- makes perfect sense and works great on Windows. it saves an extra process in workflow. I think you are getting confused with something elsefadein11
- something else here.fadein11
- makes suggestion of improvement and I get called a hater - fucking fanboi knobends. fuck off.fadein11
- after rereading you have totally misunderstood and make perfect sense - doesn't conflict with any behaviour.fadein11
- inteliboy0
^ Every Apple thing I've owned has been a "first gen" release, and have had luck where it's all been A-okay. I think it's just a case of the loudest people in the room being the ones that are complaining.
- So you install new OSs and dont have problems with them? Riiiiggggghhhhtttttt...CygnusZero4
- yup.inteliboy

- there's probs with all os's all the time. old lame point to make. is it good enough, yes? then ur good.prophetone

- The pop out ribbon rules!see_thru
- not at all mono - the dock opened applications - that strip was used for settings. And it always seemed like a pointless bolt on to me.fadein11
- bolt on to me.fadein11
- the current dock also lets you change settings, but you can feel free to make incorrect points if you likemonospaced
- I still don't like the dock. In System 9 you had a drop down menu at the top right to put all your applications. No room wasted.CyBrainX

Fantastic. I just change the system font. Drag the ttc font file to your font library. So easy.
- Messing around with any of Apple settings is like playing with a house of cards. I'm afraid to change any of the Apple settings.organicgrid
- Nah dude. This is simple, no fuss stuff. Doesn't affect anything. It's just a font file. You don't even have to delete or modify the Helvetica file or anything. Just drag the Fira.ttc file into Library > Fonts. Then logout and log back in.iCanHazQBN
- Fira looks like a sturdy system font. I'm loving it. Helvetica is more for text copy, like paragraphs of text.iCanHazQBN
- Just watch out that modal dialogs that require a password will display in gibberish. Not too big a deal though.Nathan_Adams
- You spend a lot of time complaining about os x, then post about changing the system font for the lolz. Ok.inteliboy
- Um, I changed the system font because it wasn't rendering properly for me. Among other display issues. How is doing that considered for "lolz"?iCanHazQBN
- And why can't people complain about the OS? Why is it assumed that everything Apple puts out is perfect? Even laymen designers can find obvious faults in the interface. Apple designers are not gods. They certainly have gotten lazier though.iCanHazQBN
- Have they? Selective memory I say.inteliboy

made the mistake of updating the wife's macbook pro. oh dear... runs slow as hell, looks like shit. and it's dropped off the wifi network. why did i bother?
hopefully dropping £280+ on more ram and ssd will make it better. so much for a free upgrade...
- zero problems here. There is a simple fix for the wifi issue - but should be fixed in later versions anywayfadein11
- That's crazy. How old is this machine?monospaced
- 2012. but the fuckers put a 5400rpm hd in it to be able to pay your dividend. the ssd has transformed it and it now runs nice and fast.hans_glib
- sublocked0
^ That comparison is so outdated though. Droid Sans / Roboto (Google screen font) is lightyears ahead of Helvetica for the screen (Droid). Can't tell me a thing otherwise.
- also it's too fucking widesublocked
- How dogmatic of you. Sounds familiar.monospaced
- Agreed dude. Helvetica is a good print font, not screen.Hombre_Lobo

Just finished upgrading. Going to take some time to get used to a few things.
Safari is really, really bugging me. I don't like the forwards backwards buttons on the same row as the Close/Collapse/Expand button. I keep expecting them to by directly beneath those buttons like they've always been:
I think the tab labels are too light in weight and color. The open another tab + sign button looks odd, feels like an afterthought. I know I'll get used to it, but at first use Safari feels unfinished.
I wish there were an easier way to organize Launchpad. Other than that, shine on you crazy apples.
- use chrome? I gave up on overflow tabs on safari2002
- chrome is SHITdoesnotexist
- something fishy with that pic, no qbn in your top-hits. suspicious.Gnash

Apple is about three years behind in all aspects of design including: user interface, user experience, typography, flat design, etc... There shit just looks dated and amateurish.
Sir Jonathan Paul "Jony" Ive has his head stuck up his shit pipe.

- so where is this amazing current day OS design at? i'd like to see it.inteliboy

Installed it, like it so far, seems zippier, especially Safari. There really is no reason to use another browser now, especially since it connects with your other devices so smoothly. Think this browser is just about perfect now.
Had to reinstall Font Explorer Pro (got a fatal bundle modification error) but I'm still on V3 of the software, didn't pay up for the upgraded V4 yet.
Also, ended up having to install an older version of Java so my older CS6 apps would work (it'll throw a prompt up asking you to install though, so you don't have to figure out that yourself). CC apps work fine though.
I really like being able to scale down icons in the side bar (and I think globally, because it appears in Mail's sidebar too), saves a ton of space. REALLY don't like the blue folder icons. WTF is that about?
QT Player is a lot nicer. The transparency works well with the player controls and not covering shit up completely like how their old opaque controls did.

So general consensus is this is faster and pretty good?
Can you finally duplicate, delete or move files in application file browse windows? Please say yes - this is one thing that needs to happen like Windows.- You could always do that.monospaced
- Oh. In the app menus. Yeah that would be interesting.monospaced
- Haha not possible yet ?? wtf is that wanabe OS ?i_was
- its not possible still... and v.annoying - always use it on windows. have to come out of the app window and go to finder window to doit! rubbishfadein11
- to doit! rubbishfadein11

People use apple OSs when they first come out? Interesting. They never work right and nothing is quality tested before release. Might be a wise idea to wait a lil while.
- fair enough, they should probs run a beta program to help iron out issues beforehand to dealsprophetone

- dude, nothing ever works right for you even after late adoptionmonospaced

Yeah it's a bit different lately now that Jobs is gone and they're doing full open public betas... its been in beta since june - i spent an hour before upgrading checking out all the software i used to see if it was compatible. Everything except one app was so i was hesitant but when i updated, even the one app I was worried about worked like a charm and it hasnt been updated in years.
- there were betas in Jobs' day toomonospaced
- like open open tho?mantrakid
