Bumping this ... because I don't know why.
I suppose I do - I'm at just over 4 months (again, was drinking the past couple years) and about to embark on at least 5 or 6 months working and traveling in Europe.
Anyone had experience being in foreign countries while sober? Not drinking the cheap/delicious wine over here is going to be terribly difficult. Pointers are welcome as without any friends/support groups/etc., it's a bit intimidating.
- I've also found drinking to be such a good way to quickly bond, the usual laundry list of "cons" are a bit more balanced by the "pros" now.colin_s
- Visit the Middle East instead?Nairn
- This might not the right time to not be drinking, how often in your life will you have this opportunity? If you can't control yourself and alcohol is destroyingzarkonite
- your life then don't drink. But think of all the missed opportunities and why you're not drinking?zarkonite
- How bad can it be? Ive had an armed escort out of Mexico while sober. If I told you what happened while sober in Fiji, you'd start drinking. I keep my trips...lemmy_k

not for nothin' but if the sort of sarcasm "i'm drunk now" posts could be kept to threads, well, about being drunk (as there's more than a few)... it'd be appreciated. there's enough pressure and difficulty in trying to be sober and when notype makes it a year just to get followed by sarcasm, it's not cool or funny.
- i don't care about shenanigans but this thread IS about people quitting drinking for real. respect.renderedred
- Oh gosh. It’s both funny and acceptable anywhere to make a joke like that anywhere . Get over it.monospaced

28 years clean and sober today.
What a mothers day present that must have been. I was dumped on my parents front lawn because I was passed out and the guy I was drinking with didn't want me around anymore. I am giving her my 28 year medallion for mothers day this year.- Good on you lemmy, that's some dedication right there.BuddhaHat

This ain’t something I use to vent a lot; I’m 15 days sober so far.
I was drinking too much beer. Daily. Started with a week, and then came another, and I’m feeling very energetic and proud of myself.
I usually used to think that I could handle a beer now and then, but I’m very addictive and shit. I feel good for being able to control it and to realizing it’s possible to stop and wonder.

I'm 9 months sober; no longer a depressed consumer of depressant(s)!

This story has nothing to do with people who stop drinking, it is a correct decision and for the good of one's health and the people around them, for which I applaud it.
It's just an experience with a friend, who was insufferable when he drank, there was no way to put up with it... well, he hasn't drunk for months and he's still just as much of an asshole!
I told him to drink again, I couldn't tell the difference, but that way he would go home sooner!
lol

Great thread. Alcohol sucks yet drags some of us in time and time again. Doesn’t help when your girl loves to drink too. Time to change things up I think.

I managed sober October last year, but still smoked weed. This year I wanna go full sober. I'm also going to a Warehouse Project for my birthday on the 12th October which is going to be solid. 8 hours of hardcore raving without drink or drugs with 4 people who'll will be getting on it!!
- 8 hours raving staying sober... Ha! Good luck on this ;)OBBTKN

- lol, sorry Ian, but, you have chosen a bad day to be sober...OBBTKN
- Imagine how powerful i'll feel walking about, sober as fuck, in a sea of broken people. I'll feel like Jesus hahaIanbolton
- Read “October is such an arbitrary month to be sober” and 74 other excuses to go on a full on bender that night in my new book...mort_
- Oct feels like the toughest month to go dry, between the cooler weather, football games, pumpkin beers, Halloween, etc.mxhxr
- ideaist1
Less drinkin', more thinkin'.
Sober 4-5 months over here (who's countin', eh?!)
Best thing to do when you NEED to do it; for your self: mind/body/spirit(s) (pun intended), for your family, for your friends, etc. etc. etc.
A lot of colleagues are sobering up AND generally staying their improving all facets of life.
Health is wealth.
