Humans like "things". It is natural to want to "feel" an object (gun, pointer, etc.), even if it is light.
I can't see how it is useful, but then again, we haven't started to see people talking to their phones (idiotic enough to have an earpiece, in public, and be having a conversation with yourself). Who knows, we evolve too.

My coworker has one that we've been playing around with. It's pretty cool the gestures and details of your movements it can detect, but it's a little tricky to get the hang of some of the gestures. The unlock is notably hard to get to work (pinky to thumb and twist)
The learning curve is pretty steep, but once you have some practice, it seems like it would be pretty powerful.
The API looks promising too, lots of language support.
