This is the only place where I finally saw it in black and blue, and then suddenly I was able to see it as black and blue elsewhere. But I'm looking at the above pic and it's white and gold.

I'm not sure why this caused such a controversy.... camera fails to accurate depict local colour due to settings/overexposure. Surely this happens all the time?
It's not exactly ground-breaking to realise that a photo can sometimes mis-represent the true colour of an object.- WAT?ORAZAL
- haha - totally missed the point lolfadein11
- the controversy is it 1. looks different to different people, but mainly 2. looks different to the same people at different timesset
- but lol at it going straight over your headset
- I understand that, but as designers we should be used to things seeming different to different to different people at different timesBaskerviIle
- different times. How many meetings have you been in where people disagree on what a colour looks like etcBaskerviIle

Ok, I take it back. That is extremely weird...
I saw white and gold this morning on my phone, on the image on this thread. I get into the office and the image is up on the big screen clearly looking black and blue.
So I open my phone, look at the same image I saw this morning as white and gold.. and now it's black and blue.
The fuck?

Yup just happened to me. I saw the pic in POTD, it was gold and white. I was like "WHAT?!" Scrolled down to look at the rest of the page, then back up, the dress is blue and black.
Come to this thread, the dress is gold and white.
WTF.

I see it white/gold and blue/brown alternately. Why?

Same here. 100% convinced it was white and gold this morning, now I'm unable to see anything else but blue and black... Same pic, same screen. Weirdness!

all i see is white/gold.
my brain is well balanced because this is the actual colors ffs.

I know the dress is black and blue, I understand why the photo came out the way it did. But just judging from the photo on its own, I fail to see anything other than white/gold, or light blue/brown
I also doubt I'll ever see it instinctively as black and blue, far too much of a push.
Maybe my eyes are weird. It is an interesting phenomenon.
One thing that is interesting is that both colours when inverted end up swapping around. Each is roughly the inverse of the other

- bingo, this explains so much, and it is in fact an interesting color-theory experimentmonospaced

- this is how my brain translated itmonospaced
- This sums it up, but I feel like the original image is far closer to the one on the left that the rightBaskerviIle

Still can't believe anybody describe that they saw black or white.
No where on the dress has either colour.
Blue and brown seem to be the other answer nobody's talking about.
