So Im really getting into board games with my girl and some friends. I enojy it more than videogames at this point. Anyone have any suggestions for some good ones, aside from the typical shit like monopoly of course?
Things more on the lines of Settlers of Catan, but can be played with as few as 2 people, which that game isnt made for. There is a TON of them out there.

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardg…Have it though haven't played it much, it is more of a teamwork game. A bit tough but interesting.

My friends and I developed a version of basic Settlers of Catan that can be played with two people.
All the rules are the same, except:
• each player starts by placing three settlements, instead of two.
• play to 14 points, instead of 10. (13 or 15 can work, too)This actually works really well, except that trading is a little less fun. It becomes easy to choke out a certain resource if the other player isn't getting it. Also, if one person falls behind, it becomes more difficult to catch up than a 3 or 4 player game would.

Scotland Yard
Scotland Yard iis really good, but can be a bit one-sided when you play with three or more people... I have a feeling it would be far more fun with only two people playing.
I also like Puerto Rico, although it can be a bit annoying until you get good at it. My roommate and I have been playing a lot of 7 Wonders. Both these games are best with more people, but are still very fun with only two.
- Also heard great things about both "Letters from Whitechapel" and "Fury of Dracula" which are also a hidden movement game.Nutter

Most games tend to get better with more than two players, as there are more things to concider. Another thing always to take into concideration making sure the game isn't too advanced to who you are playing with.
Its a good idea to read or watch a few reviews, either on http://www.shutupandsitdown.com/… Youtube or https://boardgamegeek.com/
If you want something along the lines of Setlers of Catan which is a "build and trade game". you might want to look into
Suburbia
A city building game, takes a little time to understand but playes really well with two players.https://boardgamegeek.com/boardg…
Carcassonne
Simple tile laying game, trying to construct roads, castles and in the long run farmers in order to score points.https://boardgamegeek.com/boardg…
I've also heard Puerto Rico, Caverna: The Cave Farmers, Lords of Vegas and Argicola. I haven't played them personally so can't say.
Some other suggestions not in that style of game would be
Dead of Winter
Zombie appocalyse where you have to scavenge for food and weapons to survive. It's a semi co-op game, meaning you have to work together, but everyone has a secret objective they need to furfill in order to win.Its kinda complex and long though.

Colt Express
Western train robbery game where everyone plans out what they want to do only to see their plan fall appart. Takes a while to assemble but its very easy to teach to all ages and a lot of fun. tallying up who won actually becomes more of an afterthought.

looks fucking complicated but when you get playing its damn good fun. Goes really well with drinking and/or smoking weed.

I wandered into my local game shop and came across this (imo) sweet looking Japanese game called Troll:
But they were asking $29 for it, which seemed silly given how small it is. So I looked it up on Amazon and can't find it for less than $50. Someone's even selling it for over $120!
Anyway, bumping this thread.

If you are getting started with boardgames I'd recommend checking out some reviews of games on "Shut up and sit down".
They are quite entertaining and explain what the game is about without going too much overboard with rules.

- I made a few races for Small World for fun a few years ago: Owlbears: http://bit.ly/2wO2vx… Mice: http://bit.ly/2xRSdc… and Frogmen: http://bit.ly/2vKpcz…Nutter
- ^ wait did you do the artwork for them?mugwart
- No, found characters on deviant art, contact the people if it was alright to use them on some print and play material. They were fine with it.Nutter

- I found that the monsters were just silly tokens against printed figures a bit sillymugwart
- Still looks fun, though. =)
https://www.youtube.…elahon - Mysterium above looks cool, I'll have to check it out.elahon
- Its ok, split into two halves and the first part can drag a bit after a few games. Then the reveal to the second half and its normally 1 vs the rest...Nutter
- and if youre not strong with rules, then being alone vs the rest can be a bit daunting. You can always houserule and switch characters though...Nutter
- Its got charm, the reveals are surprising and fun, and its nice to play now and then, but you most likely won't play more than 2 games in a row.Nutter
