“Barron Trump, the son of former US president Donald Trump, is soon to finish his time at a private school. His dad has been chatting about what's next for him as his classmates spill the beans on what he's really like.
The 17-year-old attended the Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida. This high school costs his parents a massive $41,500 in fees and students have to bring their own MacBook Airs.”

Looooool Trump is a billionaire and sending his kid to a $41k private school? Typical private schools in my neighborhood cost more than this. FFS I pay fucking $31k per kid in tuition for regular-ass daycare. There are daycares in my neighborhood that cost more than Baron’s high school! Ha!
Trump is a cheap fuck. Or I guess doesn’t value education.
- congrats, i guess?face_melter
- Weird flex.palimpsest
- "i pay people to love my kids"imbecile
- fuck off assholes. you have no idea my situationnb
- that you "pay fucking $31k per kid in tuition for regular-ass daycare" is all i need to knowimbecile
- That’s what daycare costs in nyc. Other cities too.nb
- What would you have me do? Quit my job & live on food stamps for 3 years? Exploit an au pair from another country?nb
- BTW half of the parents in my (very liberal) hood are exploiting undocumented women of color in order to save on childcare. Read a paper.nb
- That’s a delicate situation, I’m not here to judge them. I’m doing the best I can for my kids. Fuck off with your smug superiority. Ignorant fuck.nb
- That escalated quickly.palimpsest
- It's Florida, their best school's rating is still below average for rest of country for primary and secondary education across the board. Not surprised...whatthefunk
- Oh hey btw Democrats in power, can we get some fucking child care relief subsidies? What’s that? You’d like to but you’re completely incompetent? Thanksnb
- Yeah 100% I’d move to the sticks and live off food stamps for 3 years if I could hang out with my kids at that age... but that’s just me_niko
- Did you do that when you had young children?nb
- and this is me looking back...you see photos and you see happiness and joy, a life full of wonder, they were the best days...money I can always make_niko
- ...but those crucial years you can never get back. If I could do it again, would I care about being a cog in the machine? clients needs? or my precious kids?_niko
- and yeah nb it's shitty how everything's set up. daycare should be free or almost free to free up our time for kids, not judging your situation just speaking_niko
- How do you get out of the sticks after 3-5 years? How do you get hired after that kind of break in your career?nb
- ...from my experience_niko
- Such a weird place to have this discussion. while this did escalate, in NYC the childcare pressure is like an arms race, and we were once in a situation....DaveO
- ...where we had 40k per year in pre school costs, which wasn't out of the ordinary OR for an amazing school. Moving out to the sticks really isn't an option...DaveO
- ...because me and my wife are needed in person a lot of the time. So it becomes an opportunity cost at that point, and the break in career is hard to come...DaveO
- ...back from. So yes NB is a bit charged up but the realities of raising kids in a HCOL area is pretty sobering. Unfortunately, the answer is more, more, money.DaveO
- Thanks DaveO. The struggle is real.nb
- The weird part is shaming Trump for not paying *enough*.palimpsest
- nb 3 years is nothing, either you start your own thing, or you get back into it without missing a beat. If I'm looking at two candidates both 40, one on the edg_niko
- ...edge of burnout and the other who took a few years off to raise his kids, play, fish go on adventures, I'd hire the the later any day of the week._niko
- now if you're running a business, have staff and clients, it's a little tougher to disappear for 3 years unless you do it remotely._niko
- anyway I think my point is life's too fucking short and life with your young kids is even fucking shorter. sigh_niko
- I'm not far from NYC and daycare at a nice place, 9-5, is barely 1/3 this cost.monospaced
- When we had a full time nanny paid hourly, it started to get close to this cost, but that was 1-to-1 care, in-home.monospaced
- yep, friends upstate are paying so much less for daycare, but then they have a 75+ minute commute so they get even less time with their kids.nb
- Also don’t forget everything is more expensive than it was a few years agonb
- I took a job that pays really well, is extremely boring but it allows me to leave at 5:30, 3pm on Fri, and I don’t even look at work on weekends.nb
- And no one says a thing if I drop out of work when the kids need me. I take about six weeks of vacation per year. Doing the best I can figure atm.nb
- I'm a 1/2 hour ride to Grand Central, not upstate, and I work from home. I take my kids to school and back daily and never work weekends.monospaced
- The only way I could have more time with my kids is if I didn't have a job at all, lol.monospaced
- Nice, what town?nb
- Maybe we should reconsider the suburbs. (But 30min from GC would still be a 60 minute commute to my office.) So, much cheaper but further out than I am...nb
- I'm directly east on the LIRR. :) I did have a child in Manhattan but bought a house when he turned 2.monospaced

Make Russia Great Again
- Tim Pool shouts all day about how great Russia is then says he's a victim for receiving money from them? Why wouldn't he be proud of that if he believes it?whatthefunk
