- "Trump's people only used the trade deficit in goods. So even though we run a trade surplus in services with the world, those exports don't count"grafician
- "any country where we have a trade surplus or where the trade deficit/imports is less than 10% had their tariff rate listed as 10%."grafician

So just because the rest of the world doesn’t want to supersize their happy meals, live in a McMansion or drive a monster truck a huge trade deficit and debt has occurred for the US, so instead of punishing the world with these ridiculous tariffs why don’t you try downsizing a bit instead, try eating only 2 Big Macs at a sitting, try not owning 55 pairs of $300 Jordans, try walking to the corner store once in a while instead of firing up one of your 4 unnecessary carsSo yeah you can’t force the rest of the world to buy more of your shit, just start buying less of theirs.
Nobody’s ripping you off, they just can’t keep pace with your gluttony.
- And the entire system’s rigged anyway net exporters should have a strong currency and net importers should have a weaker one but it’s the exact opposite_niko
- We live in an economic bizarro world_niko
- Exactly that explains the trade deficit they think is so terrible.yuekit
- Hey if this forces some people to curb the bullshit I GUESS it’s okay then?monospaced

There are a range of estimates but economists seem to agree Trump's tariffs will increase costs for Americans by thousands per year. How many people can afford that right now?
Even if you switch to buying American for everything your cost is still going up dramatically, otherwise the tariffs wouldn't be necessary.

finally found my dusted tin foil ...
“The Last President” (1900) is a short political satire written by Ingersoll Lockwood, the same author who wrote Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey. It was published in 1900, but set in a speculative future.
Summary:
• Premise: The book opens with a shocking presidential election result in New York City that triggers chaos. A populist outsider—unexpectedly elected—represents the interests of the working class and poor, against the elites and bankers.
• The president begins making sweeping reforms. The narrative focuses on how the entrenched powers react and try to regain control through force, manipulation, or political schemes.
• Riots and panic erupt in response to the announcement. Mobs form in the streets. The Fifth Avenue elite (i.e., the financial and political establishment) fear the loss of their power and wealth.
• Wall Street is paralyzed, and the new president is seen as a threat to the old order, especially by those with vested financial interests. The chaos is described almost like a civil breakdown, especially in New York.Weird Coincidence: One of the main characters in Lockwood’s earlier books is Baron Trump, a curious boy with a wealthy father named Don. This, along with “The Last President,” has fueled modern conspiracy theories due to the similarity in names and populist themes.
