NDP.
Which reminds me that I should register for my Canadian Abroad ballot thingy.
- dont you need to say when you are returning to canada and it doesnt apply if you have lived outside >5 yrs?2002
- Well, I've been abroad since 2006, except for one year in Montréal. That was in 2011. So I'm covered, there. As for the return date, I'll just make something upContinuity
- But, yeah, those are the new rules.Continuity
- ya this whole second class citizen thing is bull shit.pango
- I need to figure this out too, going to be in spain... how do you do it?Julesvm

Hate to say NDP but that seems like the only choice
- pango0
Not Conservative, not liberal, nor green.
- 20020
Mulcair seems like a decent fellow. Saw a show about him on CBC.
- 20020
Just say no to Harper
- "Stephen Harper, the prime minister of Canada, is creating a legacy of secrecy and ignorance."
Summed up nicely2002 - yeah this is about how I feel. It's amazing how we've changed, it felt so subtle, but looking back on the last decade it's insaneJulesvm
- It's certainly not the country of my childhood. It's a very, very ugly thing now, thanks to him.Continuity

Lest we forget, a younger impatient, intolerant Harper.

NDP for sure. Trudeau lost me by supporting C-51.
Make sure you're allowed to vote; Harper changed the rules to discourage students, minorities, etc, from voting (because they tend to not support him):

Check here to see how your riding stands in the polls – good for strategic voting, if you have a split Lib/NDP situation that a Con might take:
- the liberals in our country are idiots. They'll split the vote again and give the conservatives another victory. FFS._niko
- or rather the left wing parties_niko
- Same reason for me.pango
- Useful post, thanks.Al_dizzle
- yeah, I grew up liberal but when they backed c-51 just to gain a small base it was so weak. Just spineless.Julesvm
- _niko-2
- but its true
would he be anywhere if he didnt have that last name?2002 - I don't know, seems to me it's been more of a liability than an asset. People aren't giving him a chance because of it._niko
- Those ads are stupid. I never take attack ad seriously. The main reason I don't vote for him is cuz he voted for the c-51 bill.pango
- "People aren't giving him a chance because of it."
True I guess its double edged sword2002 - Agree on the C-51.2002
- C-51? whatever, if the NSA bullshit has taught us anything is that none of it works, huge waste of time and money._niko
- Harper has been in the PMO for 10 years and still isn't ready! 10 consecutive deficits!i_monk
- lol so true_niko
- but its true

Im still undecided.
For some reason Im still on the fence about an Orange federal govt, but I like Mulclair, and his 'promise to repeal c-51' goes a long way.- I don't love Mulcair, but anyone is leagues better than Harper. What a disaster of a PM he's been.nb
- you said that before with the US elections and look how it turned out.yurimon
- Except this is Canada. Not UApango

- @yurimon: Fuck off, troll.nb

It annoys me that the Conservatives have the reputation of being fiscally responsible, or that they somehow are better at handling the economy.
Every party wants the economy to be strong. They all want Canadians to have lots of jobs and good foreign trade, and a dollar that trades well internationally, etc.
How does each party go about it? Mostly in the same way. They hire advisors, economists, bankers, etc. They watch foreign markets and the global economy and react as best they can. The Bank of Canada takes the best forecasting they can find, from multiple sources, and carefully sets interest rates.
What drives me nuts is how Harper takes credit for all the good things going on with the economy, and dismisses anything bad about it. He speaks as though HIS PARTY is somehow responsible. But no party can do this. If anyone in any country could predict everything about the economy, they'd be trillionaires. They'd make their country have zero unemployment, and be the strongest economy in the world. Canada is obviously not that.
So why does Harper get to have the reputation of being better with money? The truth is that all the parties would do essentially exactly the same things when it comes to the economy. Sure, they'll be minor differences in how taxes are distributed and so on. But, ultimately, if a program is going to sink the economy, they're not going to implement it. NO ONE EVER wants the economy to do poorly. Why do we believe this myth that conservatives are somehow better at managing the economy? Where is the overwhelming evidence that shows this? You can find evidence that all parties are good, and bad, at the economy.
- amen brotha'Julesvm
- We've had a good run of fiscally saavy governments from Mulroney, to Chretien/Martin and Harper. There are policies that affect trade and real problems thatzarkonite
- need addressing. A large debt does cripple your maneuvering margin in case of problems. Too few social programs will wreck your economy when the private sectorzarkonite
- is down. It's all about balance and focusing on the essentials.zarkonite
- Trudeau Sr was an a fiscal moron but a fantastic international politician. He gave us a great rep but added tonnes to the debt and didn't pull us out of thezarkonite
- recession as fast as the states did... that's on him.zarkonite
- Ben990
I predict you Conservatives will win by a minority.
And we will vote again in 1,75 years.
- likely scenario. The whole Duffy scandal's a joke, or at least the way the liberals are trying to make it into something. They suck at that sort of thing._niko
- Conservatives are masters at dirty politics._niko
- One thousand + years of conservative rule?Al_dizzle
- dunno, there's an orange sitting on top of Alberta right now... pigs do flyJulesvm
- Ya I actually think the conservatives will be out boted this time.pango
- Votedpango
- Mulcair is a fighter, the cons can't take him down the way they did the weak ass grits in the last two elections. I predict an NDP gov.zarkonite
- Julesvm0
seems everyone here is against harper in one way or the other... genuinely curious if anyone's voting con and why?
- Ben990
the return of Duceppe at the BLOC will also dilued the vote for the NPD. I know a part of the population in Quebec will return to the BLOC with Duceppe over there. NPD will lose votes because of that.
- Uh-huh.Continuity
- Ugh2002
- LOL, he's irrelevant. He's exactly the reason why the separatist movement is dead. His a dinosaur that keeps rehashing irrelevant arguments from a long gone erazarkonite

Just your average Canadian!

My cousin seems intent on voting for the HarperCons no matter what. She and her family moved from the suburbs to a small town in the middle of farm country, and her politics changed noticeably. Now she blames selfish and lazy children on "the government handing you everything on a silver platter". Since when does the government raise kids? You did that. I once saw you cook multiple different meals for your daughter when she didn't want one after the other.
Also, we're apparently on the verge of a Muslim takeover.
- Also, it makes no sense. If you don't like kids & and you blame the govt, why would you vote for the party that has been in power for the past 10 years?nb
- It's so weird. I know some Canadians who are convinced that we are a few years away from Sharia Law!! It's delusional!nb
- I also personally know Canadians who are VERY upset that "They are taking away our flag", regarding the Confederate flag. I don't know who "they" are, but WTF.nb
- They're impervious to reason.i_monk
- sounds like your cousin is a bit of a sheep =(zarkonite
- when you are paying for social services that other people are abusing, you feel resentful - I don't agree with the Muslim takeover commentspot13
- Selective conservativism. Someone's on welfare? They're lazy! Corporations receive massive subsidies and abuse tax loopholes and such? Oh well...i_monk
