I'd like to build a site where I can add a store, seo and message board so I guess wordpress would be the best choice? Can I get recommendations on plugins for a message board, seo, store front (and a place that makes quality merchandise like t-shirts and prints that would work with the wordpress plugin)?
I think I'll find a template at theme forest.

WooComerce for e-commerce

Muut (https://muut.com/) and has a free plan. It looks quite cool and appears to be compatible with WordPress as a plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/m...
Your options appear to be bbPress (https://bbpress.org), BuddyPress (https://buddypress.org) or WordPress Symposium Pro (http://www.wpsymposiumpro.com) depending on how much you need.
RedBubble is cool for merchandise but I'm not sure how easy it is to integrate with a WordPress e-commerce site. Zazzle integrates with WooCommerce I think, but I can't vouch for Zazzle personally.
Optional extra: JetPack for its CDN

Buddypress is a good add-on for all the community features you mention.

BBpress is the best Wordpress forum plugin.

What do you guys use for analytics, google?

I use Google Analytics but I rarely work with WordPress these days. Just FYI: that JetPack plugin I mentioned also provides analytics. Might be more convenient.
Piwik has also been recommended by some of my peers.

I recommend bbpress for the forum functionality. It's developed from the start to play nicely with WordPress and its built-in user roles. I've used it with good results on multiple projects. It's pretty easy to theme/customize the front-end as well.
Definitely go with WooCommerce for the eCommerce portion. They were recently bought by automattic (the parent company of WordPress), so you know that plugin is going to be stable and compatible with the future roadmap of WordPress.
I also recommend the Yoast SEO plugin as mentioned above.

+1 for Woo, BBPress and Yoast.
This is awesome (and free from Mozilla) for live chat & collaboration https://togetherjs.com/
There is a wordpress plugin for TogetherJS also.
I personally find Buddypress to be overkill for most applications.
