On Facebook some page I'm following created a post that had the words "spirit animal" in it, and it was amusing how many people chimed in to point out only certain people can even use the phrase "spirit animal." Apparently it's offensive to some people of indigenous american descent, and they've declared the term theirs and theirs only. They even offered up "patronus" as an alternative. Really.

    • Never thought I'd grow up to be a "reactionary" - being the radical lefty I've always been. But these kids with their "wokeness" have left me so far behind.Khurram
    • I had a girl tell me she felt guilty getting a pinata for her niece's bday because it's "cultural appropriation" - are you mad???Khurram
    • I couldn't be more proud that chicken tikka massala is the national dish of England. We're part of the FABRIC of this country.Khurram
    • But some pathetic losers are determined to paint themselves as perpetual victims. The "others" that are having bad things done TO them for all history.Khurram
    • Such a loser mindset.Khurram
    • It's like that chick that told me that you can't be racist against white people because they're inherently part of the de facto power structure bla blaKhurram
    • I'm like what about Jews??? They're white! "Oh well, you can't be anti-semetic against black people" - what??!?!?! You're just playing language games now. idiotKhurram
    • Eternal victimhood, they make me sick. No wonder intellectually feeble "thinkers" such as Jordan Peterson have an audience of baying closet racists.Khurram
    • I used to rail against people who had a problem with "PC culture". And now i have a problem with it. Who knew?Khurram
    • And now this obsessions with having "diverse" cast on every period costume drama. You expect me to believe that there were that many black people...Khurram
    • running around Elizabethan england? They just stick some negro with a thick Jamaican accent and call it diverse. "See look, we're diverse!"Khurram
    • I'm meant to by into that? Sorry, i don't. It's bullshit.Khurram
    • Especialyl when the hero (Tom Hardy) is portrayed as some Victorian gent whose best friend is a blackie.Khurram
    • As if! The whole of victorian society is built on a scaffolding of racism and white supremacy. But to satiate modern audiences they stick one inKhurram
    • And show how kindly he's treated by all the good white people. They have to do that, cos the white people are still the "heros" of the show so they have..Khurram
    • to be seen to be nice to the blacks. That's just whitewashing history! Why? Because in 2020 we need to see more colored people on TV. Just fucking lies.Khurram
    • Or maybe they have a point. I don't even know. I wonder how this cultural moment will play itself out. We're going to completely re-write British historyKhurram
    • to show how tolerant we've always been, just because some black actors aren't getting enough parts in period dramas.Khurram
    • btw- i identify as black. I'm part of the black experience.Khurram
    • I used to think USA was sexist at work, but I started workin with UK office. Holy fuk so much sexism towards office women by men, no wonder they have word lawsrobotron3k

    • wow thats a long rant in the sidenotes.pango
    • i literally wrote "I love..." to indicate the irony I'm sensing and have in droves in my life. Maybe you can get a sense of humor as it's clearly missing?monospaced
    • sorry i thought you were being sarcastic. Difficult to get across irony on text. As you were.Khurram
    • Khurram rails against PC culture & blames it on Jordan Peterson and his followers? You are a confused man sir.lambsy
    • Think you got comprehension problems lambsy. But there was a lot of text to read. I understand.Khurram
    • probably because this trend or movement(?) is not exactly organized by 1 group of people. people will interpret it in their own way.pango

Is it just me or are all of these SWJ-horrors confined to US and Canada? Maybe a little UK, but at least the british are fighting against the virus
In the Nordics, continental Europe, none of this transgender rights movement, teenagers changing sex etc, exist at all

    Fuck em
    https://www.spiked-online.com/20…
The Tavistock, the NHS clinic that specialises in treating
children 'who experience difficulties in the development
of their gender identity', has just released its annual
batch of statistics. The figures reveal that the children
being referred to the clinic are younger than ever, and
that far more girls than boys are seeking treatment.

As The Times reports, over half of all the children seen by the
Tavistock are now under the age of 14. The number of
13-year-olds referred in the past year rose by 30 per cent
to 331, while the number of 11-year-olds is up by 28 per
cent. The youngest patients were just three years old.

Three quarters of children who want help to change their
gender are now girls - the highest proportion ever
recorded. We urgently need to ask why girls in particular
are so unhappy with the prospect of growing up to be women
that they would prefer to change gender altogether.

Part of me does genuinely wonder whether this is the beginning of the end of humanity as we know it. The way technology, and people, are going.... what with 3D printing body parts etc.

I think in the future you'll be able to be whatever you want... cat, dog, helicopter, sandwich. You'll probably be able to change as easily as you do an avatar on a video game, eventually. In a way I guess it'll could be rather nice, because you can be judged on your character, on the presentation you choose rather than the fat ugly ginger body you were born with.

here's another gem by what's become Canada's version of the Onion:

Words and phrases you may want to think twice about using:

    Blackmail, blacklist and black sheep

"The issue here is that these are all negative terms," said Joseph Smith, an anti-racism trainer and educator. "[It] connotes evil, distrust, lack of intelligence, ignorance, a lack beauty — the absence of white."

This lowering of blackness on the spectrum with regards to value was developed further in the wake of the transatlantic slave trade but it also predates that, explained Smith.

    Grandfathered in

Likewise, the phrase grandfathered in — modernly referring to someone or a business being exempt from new rules and continue operating as is — dates back to a 19th century policy called the "grandfather clause," which indirectly stopped Black Americans from voting by limiting eligibility to only those whose ancestors could vote.

"It's re-inscribing the idea of a male-dominated society or world."

"At a meeting, let's say you said 'grandfathered in' — you had no idea that it has racist roots. If a Black person asks you not to use that term, then don't," said Taniguchi.

    Spooky

The term "spook" — used sometimes to refer to a ghost, spy, or something that's strange and frightening (often used during Halloween) — has a history of being an anti-Black slur when white soldiers began calling fellow Black soldiers as "spooks" during World War II.

"[It's offensive] because of who and to what it's applied to," said Smith.

"There's a history behind it and there's also all these connections that are made to other groups," he said. "It's almost like these terms have tentacles that spread and attach themselves to other things and infect."

    Brainstorm, blindsided and blind-spot

The prefix blind is often used in metaphorical terms like blindsided, blind spot and blind leading the blind, to describe the limitation of sight.

"I can see that being offensive to people who can't see," said Julie Cashman, a member of the disability community and co-chair of Consumer Action Committee, which advocates for individuals with disabilities.

Using the term brainstorm could also be insensitive to those who have brain injuries or are neurodiverse, added Cashman.

"More important is the stigma that it will effectuate about ... disorders [like] epilepsy for example," said Kalra.

    First-world problem

People have slowly moved away from using the term third world to describe low-income countries, says Kalra, but the phrase first-world problem is still used to convey that something is an issue only to those who live in a country with privilege and wealth.

It can be classist, she said.

"When we're saying first world, we're putting them at the top ... What does it convey?" she said. "Why do we have to use these prefixes, which kind of dehumanize some country or some human being or a group?"

    Tone deaf

Though it's used to describe someone who's not able distinguish musical pitch, or metaphorically as someone who's insensitive to certain matters, tone deaf may not be a kind term to those who have hearing impairments.

Cashman suggests using descriptors like "musically disinclined" instead. Insensitive is another suggestion.

@hobgoblin: Hypocrites? I don't get it. It's exceedingly possible that I'm reading this wrong as my sinuses are practically making my head explode, but it reads to me that you're having the same issue as the people who are dumbfounded that the song has been banned—just with songs that are controversial in another way.

The lyrics have some thorny issues, of course, but where do you draw the line? Plenty of popular songs in every genre have questionable lyrics. Fair play dictates that those should be scrutinized and banned too, no?

Banning art in whatever form is kinda bullshit imo and often has a reverse, unintended effect.

    https://compactmag.com/article/a…

Professor Vincent W. Lloyd, director of Africana Studies at Villanova University, author of "Black Dignity", who himself is black, visits an anti-racist workshop put on by college-age students:

"During our discussion of incarceration, an Asian-American student cited federal inmate demographics: About 60 percent of those incarcerated are white. The black students said they were harmed. They had learned, in one of their workshops, that objective facts are a tool of white supremacy. Outside of the seminar, I was told, the black students had to devote a great deal of time to making right the harm that was inflicted on them by hearing prison statistics that were not about blacks. A few days later, the Asian-American student was expelled from the program. Similarly, after a week focused on the horrific violence, death, and dispossession inflicted on Native Americans, Keisha reported to me that the black students and their allies were harmed because we hadn’t focused sufficiently on anti-blackness. When I tried to explain that we had four weeks focused on anti-blackness coming soon, as indicated on the syllabus, she said the harm was urgent; it needed to be addressed immediately."

"Late Sunday night, I was informed the students were too exhausted to have class on Monday. Tuesday morning, no one was in the seminar room. I waited 10 minutes, and Keisha entered. She said the students had something to say to me. Ten more minutes of waiting in silence. Then all nine remaining students entered, each carrying a piece of paper. One by one they read a paragraph. Out of their mouths came everything Keisha had said to me during the “urgent” meetings she had with me after classes when students had allegedly been harmed.

They alleged: I had used racist language. I had misgendered Brittney Griner. I had repeatedly confused the names of two black students. My body language harmed them. I hadn’t corrected facts that were harmful to hear when the (now-purged) students introduced them in class.

The students had all of the dogma of anti-racism, but no actual racism to call out in their world, and Keisha had channeled all of the students’ desire to combat racism at me."

    https://medium.com/market-for-id…
"The ‘seminar purge’ is a clear result of a trend that is spiraling out of control: professional racists embedded within the bureaucracies of government, academia, and corporations have discovered they can increase their income and influence — without challenge — by promoting extreme ideologies under the guise of ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Imagine Janus, bitten by Ouroboros, and trying to eat his other face, compromising both the past and the future. That’s where the so-called Anti-Racist movement is now: losing sight of the future by corrupting the past, and in the process, it is running out of things to devour in the present, leading to self-destruction."

    Btw, about age of consent:

A study form 1995 where a group of (normal) men were shown pictures of women of varying ages (the age was not revealed), and they had to rate their attractiveness:

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/sc…

Sexual attractiveness peaks surprisingly early at 14. Maybe like in all of animal kingdom a female is attractive as soon as she is fertile, but this study is also a case against pedophilia -- attractiveness falls abruptly before the age of 14. There are no normal men who are sexually attracted to 10 year olds. Nature draws a clear line here between pedophilia and pedohysteria.

Just to be clear I am turning 40 soon and my age preference for women is 31-35.

    Discuss
