It depends. How heavy is your iPeriod?

Or you could, you know, buy one of those tablet tool things that actually run real programs (and can run a full monitor/keyboard/mouse when needed).
My ipad has collected dust since getting one.
- Yeah, I have a Lenovo Miix - basically a Surface but at 2/3 of the price. Windows 10, Wacom digitiser, 256GB storage. Use it for sketching and digital painting.face_melter
- For me Windows is a problem, no way I could use that pile of shit for anything.ArmandoEstrada
- Hahahhahaha Windoze iz shit lol! Imagine using M$ products!?!??!
Fuck me.face_melter

I would say that more than anything the standard iPad is an information/media consumption device. For professionals I think it lacks the range of tools necessary, and without additional input devices it's not the most efficient tool for getting work done.
If you want to read news/info, travel, sit on the sofa wasting hours on Facebook feeds, watch Netflix anywhere, or jerk off to HD porn on something bigger than a phone in the bathroom away from the girlfriend/wife, it's great. Otherwise you probably already have the tools for most of the tasks you need. Just my $0.02.

Mono, can you do this?
- That app doesn't exist.monospaced
- Why are you asking me anyway?monospaced
- because you said you have the pencil at work. I was wondering if this is something that is "happening" already, people switching to tablets in the industry.SoulFly
- Yeah we use the Adobe apps and they are fun. There are other apps that are similar, but I don't do much Photoshop work in general.monospaced
- I don't see the mobile apps replacing the computer ones at the moment.monospaced

Ok I cancelled the order. Mostly because new ones will be released in a month, also I didn't want to spend more money on the pencil/keyboard and then have all this extra stuff to drag to client sites.
I did have an iPad from my previous employer. I miss it for keynote presentations, reading and around the house use but I'm cutting down on media consumption. If I get another iPad app gig I'll buy one but i doubt that's happening anytime soon.
I did order a kindle which solves the reading problem.
- in your face apple!sted
- lucky they are not Overstock.com where they immediately send out your order with 0 window to cancel.bklyndroobeki
- Common sense prevails!face_melter
- yeah luckily it wasn't a same day orderfourth

I'd say it's worth it. Didn't think I did and went with a small one, now I can't see going without it.

not a waste of money, a few months down the road you might have to discipline yourself into using it less.

does anyone have experience using it as a notebook replacement. How useful is it to share notes with team members. So if there's an app that several people use, seeing each other's notes instantly.
That's how I would justify the price of getting a few.- trello may do that. people keep trying to get me into it https://trello.com/scarabin
- no iPad is a replacement for a macbookfadein11

is the pencil compatible with the Mini4?
- nah just the iPad Promonospaced
- nvm. it's not.bklyndroobeki
- thanks mono, had to click buy to find out... so stupid.bklyndroobeki

I would get the pencil over the keyboard. Since it's only $100 and is good for drawing or taking notes.
Overall iPad Pro is a nice device but it comes down to whether there is a good app for what you want to do. So far there is nothing for design that goes beyond a novelty IMO. I use it mainly for streaming videos and web browsing while traveling.

it's great when traveling. maps got me all over italy without having to fuss with shitty paper tourist ones

Work got me one with the Apple Pencil. Like pinkfloyd said, it's really fun for drawing. Otherwise our team is finding it hard to justify as a real work tool quite yet. It's not a replacement for the industry standard platforms and apps that I can tell. Designing things with the available apps is cumbersome sometimes. Nice to have around when you simply want a big screen but not the keyboard of a laptop.

- I had one from work too, and I only use it for meetings and taking notesdmay
- do you use it for sketching out wires?bklyndroobeki
- For me it comes down to using a pen tool. You just need a mouse for that.CyBrainX

no

It's extremely useful, the best remote controller you can get :)

Technically, it's a bigger iPhone. Do you sometimes wish your iPhone was bigger? Well, there you go.
- yes/nomonospaced
- I don't use an iPad to make or take calls, message, or anything like I would on a phone. It's more media focused because of size.monospaced
- It's a bigger iPhone without phone, weather and calculator apps.raf
- lol!monospaced
