I have an object moving a pretty short distance over a long period of time, and theres some keyframing issue going on.
The object is actually moving left and right. I tried playing with the interpolation but doesnt seem to be fixing it. Any ideas?

Click the position attribute of your layer, and select “Separate Dimensions.”
- nbq2
Then, go back to the graph editor and tweak.

I know how to do all that. I cant figure out how to actually fix the problem. Anyone know?

Can anyone help? I still cant get this thing to move in a single direction very slowly over about 7 seconds. Even when I go into the graph and play with the curve, all it does it change where the movement gets screwed up.

You might have a hidden keyframe somewhere? Zoom in the timeline maybe? Or check your pivot point... It's hard to find out without seeing your file.

screen cap your timeline/keyframes it so we get a closer look.

- I know fuck-all about AE, but have you tried whatever the equivalent of 'reset anchor handles' is, to see what that does?detritus
- The form of that line, with one handle pointing down is settingoff alarm bells, is all - doesn't look 'right'.detritus
- set the graph to speed.... Get rid of your easy ease keyframes. if you're gonna ease, do it after you establish the move.dorkKn1ght

do you mean the object kind of bounces or wobbles back n forth?
looks like you may have some over shooting on your values maybe. hard to tell without zooming in, but those lines should be straight between the keys not slightly curved.grab the key frame and the incoming/outgoing values 0 ( so example the left tangent on first keyframe should be flat/0 etc)
use the speed graph to edit ease/speed not the value graph

yeah think its overshooting from your pic i zoomed in a bit.
hit G till you get the little inverted V tool and click your keyframes in the graph so they go straight. adjust the speed in speed graph

Nothing is working. Its supposed to just travel left very slowly, but it actually starts off going right before its supposed to go left.
I get this problem a lot when animating in 3ds max, but there you just change the interpolation and it fixes it.
- Have you tried utterly resetting the 'tween'? Your line is drawn so haphazardly, I can't help but feel you'd be better off just doing that element from scratchdetritus

reset your keyframes back to linear and do it over
- feel1
just F9 all your keys (the ones that are making the red line, x position) and then ctrl+click the first and the last keyframes to be linear, so you get a linear movement at the beggining and end

are you moving the object or the camera from the screen cap it looks like the camera is moving?
I would keep camera still and move the object itself.
- feel3
oh, it is a camera? you don't move the camera like that
you should parent it to a null and animate the null, leave only Z position for the camera
everything else should be animated on the null
to fix overshooting, right click your keyframes and go "Keyframe Interpolation" and then set "Linear" at "Spatial Interpolation"

Those tangents are the reason your camera moves to the opposite direction. You can see it from the curve as it bends downwards between your first and second keyframe. As others have pointed out, change all your keyframes to linear interpolation. You can also delete y and z components.
