- while the nominees were being announced:
https://media.giphy.…_niko - it's a good film.... but I just do not get the insane amount of love.inteliboy
- It was a good Twilight Zone episode.bainbridge
- over the top love for an above average filmutopian
- the oscars has to award black movies so they can keep their political stance of inclusiveness and diversity.hotroddy
- they don't want to be accused of 'lilly white' oscars in this political climate.hotroddy
- which is why moonlight won last year over LA LA land. The year before they were being accused of racism and liberals can't have that!hotroddy
- But Moonlight was a better movie than LA LA Land.bainbridge
- I bet you enjoyed brokeback mountain too!hotroddy
- @hotroddy congratulations, you're an idiot.garbage
- thanks garbage. Hope I didn't shit on your day./ .hotroddy
- God's probably right. These are highly political.mugwart
- God?pango
- Peele totally deserved it. That screenplay was awesome and touched a lot of people and made a huge impact. If you didn't get it, that's too bad.shellie
- Plenty of movies win that people didn't get. And, just bc im black doesnt mean I default to black films, actors, or producers. It was just a good story. The endshellie
- God?kingsteven
- God?mugwart
- autotype mixed with shameless excitement fail.
God = hotroddy ;-)mugwart - these are incredibly highly political. These rarely never have been for the quality of the film. I'm glad Peele's win thoughmugwart
- just checking who's reading mugwart? hahakingsteven
- reading?mugwart
- Jesus Christ. Its everyone on autocorrect?pango
- seems that way. It would be a lot worse for you all if I was not on it!mugwart
- @pango I think who if what because it sometimes where can it never be like thatgarbage
- I liked it, though, it was like only watching one episode of Black Mirror.ShenanigansTV
- The Oscars are about studios doing each other favours. Stop pretending there's anything objective about who wins or why.i_monk
- Prob my fave tweetsince1979
- Jordan peel’s dope. Part of the charm of the film is that peel wrote and directed it. Maybe it was a glorified black mirror episode and not oscarcworth whatever_niko
- ...That means but it was still a great movie._niko
- It got me thinking though, has there ever been a black movie( writer directo cast etc) that wasn’t about being black? Nothing American made comes to mind_niko
- jesus christ, nikomonospaced
- wow - this thread. so interesting to read.fadein11
- @garbage the same time I was just a reminder to check out this week to get a new job is going well.pango
- take a movie like falling down and replace michael douglas with denzel washington, same exact script... all of a sudden it has totally different undertones._niko
- I guess it's a symptom of America as a whole and what it deals with. Take movies made in china vs movies made in the US with chinese actors. it's always about_niko
- being chinese in america or some other racial and social commentary as the undertone._niko
- sorry don't know what my point is in all of this just making an observation lol._niko
- I think I understand what your getting at.mugwart
- The lead actor I really enjoyed from the Fades. Being a Brit he seemed to struggle with the aspect from his part.mugwart
- The film has been done before in slightly different ways. It's okay, not that well made but when has Hollywood been about thatmugwart
- @pango I am happy for congratulate if what the how is hello your predatorgarbage
- You will find it on your desk for the last episode of course it's been so outdated but it was for a while back drop Shadow copy to me know what to say thank.pango
- LOL you win this round, you glorious bastard.garbage

Wins an Oscar for talking about himself in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person. What a self righteous narcissistic megalomaniac.
- Is that the final animation or sketches?bainbridge
- final.utopian

- i guess they forgave merylGnash
- what does gun control have to do with armed officers?inteliboy
- Last happy photo of Spacey yet to be takenmugwart
- oh, this pic was last year?Gnash
- 2 years ago, maybe 3Bennn
- If there was gun control they wouldnt need the armed officerserr
- Spacey at the back LOL. Grabbing Pitts ass.Hayzilla
- 500 trained armed officers. It’s not like they gave bonuses to 20% of the actors who wanted to arm themselves.fooler
- mugwart0
One of the many VFX houses that worked on this but yay!
- mugwart-4
Slight rant but why/how in the name of fuck did Shape of Water win even single award? Directing was dire and dull, set design was yawn. Acting apart from (stella Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins) was uneventful.
Above all the writing was dribble, it was pure stereotyping, women this, gay people are this, white man is this, black man that.
I was able to predict the entire film from the first opening minutes...These awards should have gone to better films. It was a bad rip off of Amélie.
- ffs it's hollywood - what the hell do you expect?hans_glib
- ^ better! I know I know. Been in film VFX for way to long and still I have hope!mugwart
- my high school buddy did the production design on thatGnash
- shame on him then ;-)mugwart
- I haven't seen it yet -- was it that bad?Gnash
- the production company (not the technicians) made a mediocre film at best. Cause it was PC it was applauded not questionedmugwart
- hm, I didn't realize that there was any PC buzz about it.Gnash
- nor I. I went in really looking forward to this (love monster/ strange films) but through the first 5 mins I know every event film. Only one scene surprise me.mugwart
- It’s a great film. Don’t listen to this one angry rant.monospaced
- VFX on the creature was incredible.mugwart
- +1 mono
del Toro’s work was brilliant & deserved- though I wish he gave cred to the Islamis poet’s quote used @ the end. But I digress.notype - PC? It's a fairy tale ffs. The entire film hangs on her deafness. GdT brings beauty to the most banal, every-day, things.face_melter
- The acting was incredibly powerful, and the script was original. Any parts that seemed derivative were absolutely intentional and necessary for the story.monospaced
- Visually and thematically rich, it was so much more than a fairytale. It was a story of love, loss and regret. It stuck with me more than most films.monospaced
- @notype, I don’t remember the quote but I’m sure he was credited in the credits at leastmonospaced
- really not angry at all.
Just my opinion. Acting was great on the two actors I mentioned. Rest really was obvious and very very fake.mugwart - @face, I've studied fairy fales and they are anything but PC. What we have had in the past 100 years are not "real" fairy tales.mugwart
- Also there was no reasoning in the film. Almost no reason to fall in love. (I'm actually really happy as we won for 2049.)mugwart
- I'm not the only one https://www.telegrap…mugwart
- with all due respect, if you don't understand why they fell in love, then you pretty much missed the entire point of the movie, to its coremonospaced
- which is no surprise why you didn't like it ... you failed to understand it entirelymonospaced
- No No I get it was a love story and that they were to be together. I'm 110% down with that. It was the direction "engine" (if you will) that failed memugwart
- It wasn't organic. Say Ameile, you fell for the characters it was organic. This film was you being told you had to feel in a certain way. They used PC plot ...mugwart
- traps/devices for you to manipulate you in a certain way.mugwart
- Its my grip with modern films. Your conducted as much as the film extras.
Take Shawshank Redemption, you felt the characters, you felt their emotions.mugwart - Here you have a someone with an egg and a portable music player for like 1 minute.mugwart
- If I had to review this in a sentence, "Its a film that is pieced together without heart from films that do have a lot of heart"mugwart
- well, it turns out a lot of people connected with the characters in The Shape of Water, felt them, felt their emotions ... I sure didmonospaced
- ;-) Not a complete fail then ;-)mugwart
- lol ... it was all #winning ;)monospaced
- it played up stereotypes of an implied era all around it's about being different and finding love... if you can't relate, well...ben_
- Hayzilla7
I really liked Shape Of Water. It felt very different to the usual films I watch. Not ground breaking but sweet and fantastical and the story was fairly predictable so probably why it didn't win best screenplay. Maybe it didn't deserve so many oscars but I can't be mad at it for doing so.
- in the age when a man cant save a dog without being raciest yet an entire film can lift and steal from someone else and get an award.mugwart
- Dunno what you're on about mate.Hayzilla
- Stealing ideas really get my goat ;-)
As probably noted by my comments on this page!mugwart - it was like free willy, but she has sex with himsarahfailin

I have no clue how there are 'no similarities' between this, let alone that the Academy would give a possibly plagiarized piece the best picture award.
Then again they gave a rapist an award first thing of the evening, so whatever.
- Ramanisky213
- With Walken in the room as well!mugwart
- awnotype
- These too deserve a room!mugwart
- *two (sorry!)mugwart
- maybe it's all part of a new Key & Peele skit/movie mocking the Oscars?Krassy
- I remember when Oscars where exciting, a big event. Haven't watched in years. But maybe because I lost all interest in movies. Also hate all super-hero movies.M01XXX

- I've never ever watch Oscar live... Or even finished the entire show. All anyone cares about is who won.pango
- my dumbass mother-in-law complained "I didn't like the dresses this year, usually they do them better."monospaced
- lol mono, that does pretty much sum up the Oscars though.fadein11
- I don't know what the fuck her thought process was. Is she thinking the Academy has anything to do with the wardrobes? ffsmonospaced
- nice way to speak about your inlaws, dude... lolPonyBoy
- of all the things people say and admit on this site, and that's the one that gets you? lolmonospaced
- I have nowhere else I can say that, actually. I love you guys.monospaced
- speak your mind, man... haha... I could just never see myself referring to my mom-in-law as a "dumbass"... maybe a "badass" :)PonyBoy
