LOL @ you dudes who deleted Facebook 6 or 9 years ago and thought it was shit back then. You thought it was a dump 9 years ago??? YOU HAVE NO IDEA. Facebook was a paradise compared to now.

Among many other reasons, (talk about, for example, fb bookmarklet button allowing the users to scrap the www, later the "like" object - the greatest growth hack ever conceived in silicon valley tracking almost every website in the webs)
.. Blame that guy Feltron or Felton or whatever his name is, who was obsessed with is personal data and designed some crazy (I must say pretty well crafted) infographics of personal daily habits and then landed in facebook HQ's as the "creator" of facebook timeline. This wasn't zuck's merely luck on capitalizing the world's data. It was a well planned team endeavour to capture - and then make profit from the most chunks of world data ever, made by the best-paid designers, psychologists and engineers in the world. It's very easy to understand where it's eventually going to. The richer, the more reach. - just a spontaneous rant.

even if everyone leaves facebook, they still got the data. just a question of linking it to the 'new' friendster and the can track anyone down. and sell it.
- people will forget about this is a week or twoGnash
- Why leave Facebook, change your identity, contact info, likes and dislikes, go off the gried, etc., presto... Problem solved.robotron3k

I left Facebook 9 years...what a fucking dump it was!

So you join Facebook. They hoover up as much data about you as possibly can. Sell it to marketers who advertise to you. Allow, either intentionally or not for politically motivated agencies to try to draw phycological conclusions from the data and use that to display adverts.
Ok... but you the public don't have to follow what adverts say, or pay any attention to adverts. You don't have to be so easily influenced or gullible.
All this leaked data to Cambridge analytical etc.. yeah so, the issue is the general public if they acted on the adverts/fake news, then we have a problem, and education is clearly what's needed.
Over my life I've seen 1000's of adverts for Fairy washing up liquid. And never once considered buying it. I just buy the cheapest or a more eco friendly one if it's on offer. Fairy are welcome to spam my Facebook for the rest of my life, I'll still pay no attention to it.
- but your hands that do dishes feel as soft as your driveway.Fax_Benson
- why does fb ads think you are target audience for Fairy? Do you talk a lot about dishes? did you google it?uan
- Are Fairy claiming their rivals run a sex ring and will get your dad's job at the iron foundry back? I bet they are. Never trusted that little kid.Fax_Benson
- yup. totally agree.Gnash
- Who the fuck, in the year of our Crystalline Jesus 2018, uses facebook or any of these digital cunt factories *without* an adblocker?face_melter
- you make 'cunt factory' sound like a bad thingGnash
- +1 for adblocker - essential, as is a tracker blocker etc etchans_glib
- ^ if to be trusted. Also Fairy washing up liquid doesn't profile you, know where you are right now, what your thinking. Its a bit deeper than all of this.mugwart
- I’ve never used an ad blocker of any type.monospaced
- Fairy doesn't need to use fear and lies to sell itself... right wing politics does. That's the differenceSlashPeckham
- yep mugwart, way deeper than this.fadein11
- ad blockers are a funny thing to mention in a forum where a lot of people make their living from creating ads...SimonFFM
- @slash - right and left seem to be both as bad as each other. We live at a strange timesmugwart
- Fairy was just an example brand. Though one could argue I won't even think of such a brand if it wasn't for their advertising.shapesalad
- fear is exploited all the time in advertising.
Fear of: aging, dying, being alone, not fitting in, being a bad parent/lover/caregiv...Gnash - and just look at ANY political TV ad -- it's always DOOM & GLOOM if you vote for the other guyGnash
- interwebs is no differentGnash
- ^ miss the days when it was just sex!mugwart
- What the fuck are you not buying Fairy for? Its the only washing up liquid one should even consider buying. I'll never understand people.detritus
- lol det (nods in agreement)fadein11
- difference is you know when it's a TV political ad as opposed to an online fake news storyfadein11
- I don't have as blocker. I'm just immune ads. I'm practically jimmypango
- shapesalad, do you even work in advertising??? You are like a lumberjack cutting down trees then claiming that forest isn't disapearing because of your actions.pr2
- You are totally oblivious to how your senses and biology work.pr2
- Because of that i'm CONVINCED that adverts work you over all the time. Only acute self awarness protects individuals from their onslaught.pr2
- ignoring consumption is the only thing that saves you.uan
- but then it becomes irrelevant and only eats resources, your cpu, memory and bandwith and you end up installing ghostery or using braveuan
- still those don't safe you from information consumptionuan

If you quit Facebook, you'll also quit the QBN FB group wich is our last boat if this website close tomorrow morning. If we drown the FB group we'd need a new safety boat.

QBN IS SELLING YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION! I have obtained a leaked copy of all the data gathered so far:
- Pango is asian
- Set is a cunt
- Georges disappeared, but used to be black
- some of us live in England.that's all so far.

"It is time. #deletefacebook"

I know he's now pushing https://signal.org/, BUT none-the-less what he's saying and whom he's saying it for feels like the first real "threat" to Facebooks future.
I think it would be great to get rid of or cripple what I consider to be the largest distraction in human history from progression.

@shapesalad
I agree with you that a few ads on our timelines shouldn't be an issue in this day and age to those who are savvy to their dark ways (fuck Fairy Liquid and Nanette Newman).
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.c…
But that's not the issue with what has happened over the past couple of years – it's the fuckwits who are susceptible to the kind of vulgar persuasion being used that are the issue. The simple minded Trump followers in the US; the gammon faced blowhards in the UK. In the US it only took 70k voted to swing the electoral college and with Brexit, leave had a tiny majority.
Never underestimate the ignorance and gullibility of the man on the street. On a purely anecdotal level, I watched my own Dad turn into a dribbling xenophobe during the Brexit campaign and I was shocked at the level of arsehole he was conversing with on Facebook. The state of his feed was ridiculous and he would not accept it was colouring his view of the world.
- Fair point. Fairy point.shapesalad
- yep +1fadein11
- propaganda has always worked on the weak minded, and will always work on the weak minded. whatever form it takes.Gnash
- this kind of hyperbolic creation only serves to strengthen and justify the inevitable calls for more gov't intervention where it doesn't belongGnash
- there are already laws for this kind of privacy breach. charge them appropriately and move on.Gnash
- the catastrophizing is just colouring the other 'dribbling' arseholes world viewsGnash
- I should say about my Dad, and I think this is key, I was wrong to say 'turn into a dribbling xenophobe'; it obviously always there and the micro-targeting...Wolfboy
- ...and fake news bots brought it to the surface.Wolfboy
- I often wonder how far does this 'fake reality' lead us? BBC? FOX? Or just facebook?mugwart
- the problem is the internet is still relatively new media, kids will be able to identify all the signs of blatant manipulation. The old guard can't and that'sfadein11
- why it worked so well with Brexit and Trump. Throw in stupidity and hunger for a vote of protest (as opposed to voting for something you genuinely believe in)fadein11
- and the process is pretty much screwed from the outset.fadein11
- and let's not forget Cambridge Analytics didn't just work the data, they also came up with some of the key campaign soundbytes used by the Dotard.fadein11
- sounds like CA were doing their job, thenGnash
- Oh yes, they delivered.fadein11
- and I don't think that was ever in question, was it?fadein11

Looks like you can't "Delete" your account you can only "Deactivate" it. All the info will still be there.
A few years ago there was a FB delete application called "Web Suicide Machine" that went in a deleted every picture you posted, unlike every post you liked, untagged you in all your "friends" pictures.
Looks like the FB lawyers made them stop with a cease and desist letter.- you can delete it. you have to google it and go to a specific site. then don't sign back in or else it will reissue you your account.capn_ron
- they didn't make it easy though, that is for sure.capn_ron
- well if you sign back in and it reissues it, then it's not entirely deleted!shapesalad
- i think it has a 30 day time limit on that part. i'm sure the info is never gone, but it does get rid of your account after 30 days. at least is says it does.capn_ron
