Windows users, what antivirus are you using? Is Microsoft Defender enough?
- section_0141
It should be. Windows is pretty safe, for the most part. Browser's are sandboxed, so they can't install applications at will like they once could.
Just don't do dumb shit like running .exe's that came e-mailed to you inside a zip file from Nigeria or whatever.

IMO, if you are relatively experienced internet user, you don't need one and in my experience firewalls are just a heartache.
- hotroddy0
don't download the flash player to see the video that you click baited from.

thanks, ill go with Defender

The best Antivirus for a PC in an Apple.
- thats what people were saying 15 years ago yesBennn
- anti virus is built into macOS, just like in Windows, and having the unix system underlying certainly helps make it very securemonospaced
- @mono I want to believe. They are fixing zerodays with almost every update and apple isn't the company who will communicate fixed security vulnerabilitiessted
- if they aren't out in the public already.
and that leaves the user with issues like this: https://siguza.githu…sted - lolmonospaced
- I post something positive about Apple and still get voted down, lolutopian
- Old news. Ain't factual anymore. But like people thinking Volvo's are safer, people still think Apple is safer.formed

I've been using Avast for as long as I remember on all my machines (PC W10). I also have Malwarebytes, if there is a file suspicious and Avast still can't find anything on it.
Having said that, I wouldn't go alone just with Defender that comes standard with W10, coz even viewing some hotlinked images on some sites, even on QBN (older pages), Avast pops up once a in while.
Last, known torrent files and sites are good but once you start downloading, some port attacks do happen occasionally and again Avast pops up to warn you. So, I trust Avast alone with MB on the side, I have never ever had any issues. Hope this helps.
- thanks i've eard good thing about Malwarebytes, seems like a must haveBennn
- just don't kill that beautiful new machine with that crap :Dsted
- what are you saying sted?Bennn
- that you just bought a new machine right?
there is no reason to install these things if you don't know how the internet works.sted - yeah you'r rightBennn
- oh lol, *if you know :)sted

I only use the one built in on Win10

Malwarebytes deleted my hosts file, and it installed tons of junk
Avast slow piece of shit with lots of false alarms
Norton Antivirus
Must be fun at some places where its accepted to use 30% of the resources for a FUCKING VIRUS SCANNER.Kaspersky
I was nice and they fucked it up, i don't trust these guys anymore.Windows Defender is enough just don't watch porn and download junk.
- sarahfailin3
you're better off with the viruses than installing Norton Antivirus.
- trooperbill0
antiviruses are a con. theyre rarely capable of detecting and fixing issues real time as their databases are always out of date so chances are if you do pick up a virus it will go undetected.remember ransomware! - my brother had antivirus updated daily (bitdefender) and still got hit
security is an illusion
tl;dr windows defender and periodic scans with malwarebytes lolz

MS Defender is good enough. Use adblockers (uBlock Origin for Chome is best imo) because most stuff is injected with js from ads.
Run Malwarebytes Anit Malware once a month or so (no need for real time check, the free manual edition is good enough)
And use your brain whilst surfing.
- mekk0
Oh and if you use mail clients turn off automatic file download or anything like that. If someone sends you a file, double check if it is legit.
Two main sources of virus:
- JS attacks injected via ads: use adBlock
- infected word files from asshole project managers: double check (person and file) before opening- and emailed pdfstrooperbill
- I didn't know viewing ads was that dangerous, we always thought viruses come from infected software downloads. Good to know!cherub
- Ad placements are often not very well checked so you can just book a placement, select your audience and publish your JS and sideload your shit on other sitesmekk
- Bennn0
well i'll stick to Windows Defender.
Is Adblock Plus for Firefox ok?
- adblock plus has whitelisted ads, so you still see some. ublock blocks everything. But ABPlus is still coolmekk
- +1 for uBlockdetritus
- allright, just removed Adblock Plus and installed uBlock, didnt know about itBennn
- Adblock are ok, they takes a bit of the speed, but they block for ads.. Still its not a guard for scam nor virus.Danish

I have Norton now, but when I upgrade all of my machines I'll stick with Windows. Firewalls can be a pain in the ass, every time there's a connection error I have to go disable everything, try again, etc.
Subscriptions suck.

I use Avira Pro for around 21,26 USD and MalwareBytes for 23.99 USD (per year)..
I had allways used those two together in many years.
- Bennn2
Microsoft built in Defender and MalwareBytes (paid version) are a perfect combo from what i'Ve read. That what Iam using.
