Elon buying QBN next
- Can't, it's priceless.shapesalad
- Actually someone should tweet him about the last bastion of sanity on the web, the grand QBN.shapesalad
- He might make us all an offer!shapesalad
- I'm selling my shapesalad account for £10m starting price.shapesalad
- QBN is hosted on the same server as kerningman for a reason ;)grafician
- He'll buy us and make sure Bobo is moderator.CyBrainX

"Elon Musk said that -- under his ownership -- he wants to "make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots and authenticating all humans""

What a bastion of free speech Elon is. The man that called one of the Thai cave rescuers a pedophile seems like a perfect person to control the narrative.
- Elon the freedumb fighter.utopian
- He didn't mean he was a pedo, it was just something South African kids say. Pedo means something different in SA. He's just the best.PhanLo
- Calling someone a pedo is not free speech?palimpsest
- "Free speech" doesn't mean life is a fucken free for all matey.BusterBoy
- How does calling someone a pedo go against free speech though?
That specifically is what I'm trying to understand here.palimpsest - You can do this!palimpsest
- he is very carefull in his hustle.. that trudeau - hitler thing ... very elegant freedom of speech.neverscared

What happens if you buy Twitter stock now?
- You won't have made as much as stockholders did today. I made $9.12 today. Drinks on me.CyBrainX
- drink on you, tip on mecapn_ron
- Is this a serious question? If you buy it you own it. That’s it.monospaced
- Once the buyout is finalized, you get paid out at $54.20 a share. Maybe they send you a cheque. The risk is you buy now, buyout doesn't happen, price plummets.monNom
- I don’t think so.monospaced
- Twitter won’t send checks. When a company changed hands the shares remain with the shareholders. Elon isn’t buying shares from people dude.monospaced
- The shares will go up or down in value. That’s it.monospaced
- "Musk’s comments that he plans “to retain as many shareholders as is allowed by the law in a private company” is also likely sowing confusion. Some may havefadein11
- interpreted this as meaning retail investors will be able to stay in, even once Twitter is taken private. But the reality is that only the largest investors arefadein11
- likely to own a piece of the company after the deal closes."fadein11
- https://www.bloomber…fadein11
- Delaware company can have 500 shareholders I think. I think that’s the largest for a private co.monNom
- As for shares. Most are registered to ‘street names’ so you don’t actually hold them. You hold a claim to them that is mediated by the broker/market maker.monNom

What does a typical day for Elon Musk look like? Maybe in the morning he's the CEO of Telsa, in the afternoon CEO of SpaceX, then in the evening he's coding the new version of Twitter. Briefly over lunch spends five minutes on Hyperloop and Neuralink projects.
Remember those charts where it would show that everything is ultimately owned by a handful of giant corporations? Now it's just one guy personally running everything.

Tesla Stock Plunge Wipes Out $114 Billion In Value As Twitter Deal Sparks Fears
- lolSalarrue

- He's more addicted to tweetingNBQ00
- thanks grimes..neverscared
- It was a stupid idea. Entire market is going down, though, Tesla's held up pretty well considering.formed
- colin_s-3
the freak out about all this is hilarious because what actually just happened is like this
and the people on twitter are this
but seem to believe they are this
in the end this will only matter to musk. if the contingent of users that has vowed to crash twitter the way tumblr cratered after yahoo bought it actually succeed, that will be hilarious. if not, it'll just be blue check media addicts bullshitting about nothing and changing even less.

- If someone is constantly messaging me about something I’m not arsed about, I’d eventually tell them to fuck off or walk away. Sadly I can’t block people 4 realzIanbolton
- I do think this debate is way more nuanced than blocking someone on a social media platform because they say stupid shit all the timeIanbolton
- Yeah, one user blocking another on a platform has nothing to do with free speech.mort_
- When will the block function come to QBN as I'm defo blocking all you motherfuckers. Then see how free I am; alone, empty and crying ;-)Ianbolton

- When this all goes tits-up, I want a mute button for any reference to Twitter on the internet. Perhaps I can build it into a firewall rule or something.BuddhaHat
- Says the guy who's whole business is selling chinese exports, for chinese merchants, and who incidentally owns the Washington Post.monNom
- ...and doesn't have any exposure to china :)
Elon could lose the Tesla factory there. Apple their iphone factories and so on...
"Exposure" look it up ;)grafician

This comment by Jack Dorsey kind of sums of history of the internet. In principle, he thinks no one should run Twitter. It should be "public good at a protocol level"..which sounds like a nod to the dream of open source software, decentralization, Wikipedia, Bitcoin, etc.
But in practice, he's turning it over to the wealthiest person in the history of the world, worth $260 billion, who will have total control over everything. Close enough, this is basically the same thing.
- the light of trolling more like it.neverscared
- Yeah how can he type that last sentence without breaking down laughing...maybe he did we don't knowyuekit
- haha. I've listened to a couple of recent interviews and Musky does sincerely believe that we need social media to function as a species.Ianbolton
- For us - not for advertisers. Whether he can achieve these intentions is another thing. But we'll see. He seems more altruistic than Zuckerberg for exampleIanbolton

- they are making the next internet, I don't know if I am happy or not, but this move is probably Musks contribution to make TBD54566975 a working reality.uan
- tagline tbd:
building an open, decentralized financial system for all.
It's the authentification standard of the future (for the west).uan - it's a next level authentication standard, that will allow credit scores, free money flow, and will kill a lot of bots in social media.uan
- In a way it's good but it's also scary. China implemented something similar (but more basic) already and we say it's what authoritarian regimes do.uan
- Looks like it's corporations who will implement it for us in the west.uan
- You might imagine that Twitter's board somehow has a goal besides making money. It doesn't. It was legally obligated to sell to Elon because that's their...monNom
- fiduciary responsibility. They only appear to be progressive because they calculate that makes the company more money/less risk. Corporations have no morals.monNom
- So there is a chance that Elon turns twitter more authoritarian, but don't think Twiiter presently has any ethical obligation other than to the almighty dollar.monNom
- TLDR; Twitter was already cancerous and predatory. As a private co, it might be better insulated from the demands of their shareholders for returns.monNom
- lol, open decentralized for all... damn the brainwashing is strong... especially the for all thing.neverscared
- and here we are: you go plugged or unplugged, that is the question.uan
- so thats how you reframe your - for us all - statement- lol..neverscared
- if u like authoritarian u def. have to plug in... not so decentralized after all then, but its a good slogan for idiots.neverscared

He's really just an investor.
People think he invented Tesla or Rockets or Paypal, but really he just gave them money.
Right?
- his Wiki page says he's Chief Engineer at Space X or something. Calling him an investor seems wildly simplifiedIanbolton
- He’s more than just an investor but it’s true that he didn’t found Tesla and also didn’t found Paypal.NBQ00
- he's a problem solver who almost resqued the soccer kids.he's also a comedian. Did you not see him on SNL? and he's also a dancer. Have you not seen his moves?Krassy
- You can tell he has an engineering mindset. I've watched interviews where he actually understands the subject. Vs. some marketing hand-waving CEO.section_014
- he's no dummy and is knowledgeable, sure, but many consider him a genius innovator blah blah and he ain't thatKrassy
