This is why it's a good idea to read these stories critically instead of jumping to conclusions like this guy did:

So what does this story actually say? The lab leak was proven right? We wuz right, the gov'ment lied?

No...it says ONE department of the US government changed their view on the most likely origin, from undecided to leaning weakly towards lab leak.

And the Department of Energy shared their intel with other government agencies like the CIA, NSA etc and none of the others were convinced by it.

"Assessment Covid-19 leaked from Chinese lab is a minority view within US intel community"

    https://edition.cnn.com/2023/02/…

    • Considering the fact that China was never willing to help investigate the origins of Covid-19, refused to share any of its finding...and blamed the US...utopian
    • Why is China still hiding all of their intelligence regarding Covid? What are they afraid of? The truth? - Fuck China!utopian
    • The entire world knows that Covid-19 was birthed in Wuhan, China.utopian
    • Because that's how China operates. They think about internal domestic politics first and never admit a mistake.yuekit
    • Anyway it's difficult to trace the origin of an unknown virus under the best circumstances. Where did Omicron come from? No one knows, even as the entireyuekit

    • People seem to be under the illusion that we're living in the Jetsons or some shit and we can track every virus that's circulating, even the ones we don't knowyuekit

A new study finds more evidence of coronaviruses circulating in trafficked pangolins, including a previously unknown coronavirus from bats with a "furin cleavage site"...which is a feature lab leak supporters like Matt Ridley constantly use to suggest it SARS-2 was genetically engineered.

    • ...the jump of coved from bat to pangolin. Any ideas?Morning_star
    • *covidMorning_star
    • Morning_star, it doesn't disprove the lab leak theory. But people will often point to one feature of the virus, the furin cleavage site, to argue that it wasyuekit
    • engineered. This shows that the same feature can evolve naturally in pangolins, which are known to carry the closest viruses to SARS-CoV-2 in nature.yuekit

    • Is it the one with Matt Ridley and Alina Chan that just came out? I'll give it a listen... in general I think the idea the virus came from lab research isn't ayuekit
    • crazy conspiracy. I wouldn't put it in the same category as 5G cell towers causing the pandemic :) But I do think people exaggerate the case for it.yuekit
    • In particular I think they wrongly interpret the lack of evidence for an animal origin as automatically pointing to the lab. When in reality, the CCP covers upyuekit
    • all kinds of things, even stupid ones, and may simply not want to take responsibility for the pandemic.yuekit
    • And here's the problem, it's once again a topic where people with some knowledge but who aren't domain experts step forward and present themselves as experts.yuekit
    • That describes Alina Chan, a post doc researcher who isn't a virologist and Matt Ridley, a science writer with a history of embracing conspiracies.yuekit
    • I know it's super uncool these days to say we should listen to experts but you really have to note the fact that very few virologists think it was a lab leak.yuekit

An Even Deadlier Pandemic Could Soon Be Here

As the world is just beginning to recover from the devastation of Covid-19, it is facing the possibility of a pandemic of a far more deadly pathogen.

Bird flu — known more formally as avian influenza — has long hovered on the horizons of scientists’ fears. This pathogen, especially the H5N1 strain, hasn’t often infected humans, but when it has, 56 percent of those known to have contracted it have died. Its inability to spread easily, if at all, from one person to another has kept it from causing a pandemic.

But things are changing. The virus, which has long caused outbreaks among poultry, is infecting more and more migratory birds, allowing it to spread more widely, even to various mammals, raising the risk that a new variant could spread to and among people.

Alarmingly, it was recently reported that a mutant H5N1 strain was not only infecting minks at a fur farm in Spain but also most likely spreading among them, unprecedented among mammals...

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/…

    • How long before bird-kind become offended at the term and they have to change it?_niko
    • Yeah, it's getting close. Some seals have died from H5N1 in Scotland. Imagine what 50% death rate will do to society. Book of Eli here we come.zardoz

The Surgeon General in Florida seems to have some concerns about the vaccine. If true, the stats seem to raise troubling questions regarding the insistence of the global narrative that the covid vaccines are as safe as any other.

I tried to going to my pharmacy this afternoon to get a Flu & Covid booster shot. • It looks pretty bad doesn't it? It would mean Campbell, Weinstein, Rogan etc are likely responsible, even if indirectly, for killing thousands of people.yuekit

"Molnupiravir, developed by Merck, is designed to kill the virus by inducing mutations in its genome. However, a new study has shown that some people treated with Molnupiravir develop new variants that not only remain viable but also spread."

    • Interesting...but it also shows that when there's a real controversy about a drug, scientists will discuss and debate it,yuekit

    • New variants of viruses are being created all the time just as a result of them infecting humans and other animals.yuekit
    • catalyzed by medicine?sted
    • Nope, everytime someone gets infected there's a chance of generating new variants. That's almost certainly how the pandemic started in the first place, yuekit
    • how Delta variant emerged, Omicron etc.yuekit
    • The concern is this medication might supercharge that process but it's not the only way it can happen.yuekit

    • Oh yeah definitely we can all fall for these same mistakes. But it's good to be conscious of what they areyuekit
    • With conspiracy theorists you see them drawing weird conclusions that don't make sense, and they don't seem to be aware of this.yuekit
    • These are really two different things, conspiracies which of course exist and conspiracy theories, which describes a certain type of thinking.yuekit
    • Like in the case of Watergate, the reporters didn't sit around making up some elaborate nonsensical theories, they just went and found out what happened.yuekit
