Households paid to cut energy use during strain on network.
Cold weather in continental Europe is affecting energy prices and deterring traders from selling power to Britain
Households will be paid to use less electricity on Wednesday evening as cold weather and low wind speeds put Britain’s power system under strain.
National Grid, the company responsible for keeping Britain’s lights on, has activated its so-called “demand flexibility service” for the first time this winter as it seeks to reduce consumer demand between 5pm and 6.30pm on November 29.
