Interior Ministry General Alexander Travnikov was involved in a serious ATV accident. He is in a hospital in critical condition.
That's a new one.
add that one to the list of Unexpected sudden Russian deaths

the end.
- Attack Putin, march all the way up to Moscow, be accompanied by local russian forces and say "I think I changed my mind"... Really?drgs

Wake me when this is over. So far, it just seems like bs posturing - no really conflict, just YouTube videos and propaganda.
How can anyone really have any idea what is 'real'.

"A source close to the leadership of the Mogilev region in Belarus confirmed that the authorities had been instructed to build a camp for PMCs in the region and that the Wagner mercenaries will be sent to Belarus"
- all a ploy to maneuver Wagner to open a new front while not directly drawing Belarus into the war? seems convoluted but who fucking knows_niko
- ^ Sadly, Occam's Razor has rarely applied, as far as Russia and its prosecution of this war are concerned. So, you may be right.Continuity

So at the end some crazy billionaire mercenary captured a bunch of tactical nukes that he can launch on his own without needing any codes?

There’s more and more theories pointing toward Prigozhin only being the face of a larger coup, which is supported by parts of the Army and the intelligence services.
The goal is to remove Putin, withdraw from Ukraine and return to making business with the world.
- what took them so long?zaq
- Would be great long term for the Russian people, right now it’s only for the benefit of the tzar and his cronies. But it could be worse under Prigozhin_niko

But I don't. Not yet.Continuity - Wagner have no air support or assets. Wagner are supplied by Russia. How are they going to do this?shapesalad

New theory just dropped

This is not a coup by Prigozhin. This is an inner war between the St Petersburg gang of Putin and the Moscow gang of Gerasimov and Shoigu. This is the beginning of Putin‘s election campaign to become reelected on March 17, 2024. His lapdog Prigozhin is masquerading a coup to put the blame on Gerasimov and Shoigu for losing the war against Ukraine. Prigozhin can always be scapegoated if he fails like this has happened in the past.

Rumors that Prigozhin has been promised presidency of Belarus
Anyway, I feel like I watched a super exciting TV show and they've butchered the finale
There is maybe a small chance that this is not the end. Interesting times ahead
- This was about as satisfying at the GoT finale.
About as pointless, too.Continuity - You'll have to wait for next seasondmay

Looks like Prigozhin hit the brakes?
What happens to him now? Jail... death? No way he can step back and things go back to the way they were.

So, Wagner are now crossing, err ... *checks notes* ... Lipetsk province, which is pretty much half way between the Ukrainian border and Moscow.
That was fucking fast.
What I'm not at all clear on is if whatever remains of the Russian military inside Russia, the FSB, and the police are trying to do anything to stop them. Because, from where I sit, it looks like none of these organisations is lifting a finger, and are letting Wagner blitz their way to the capital.

This could throw a spanner in Prigozhin's works, though. From The Guardian live feed:
'It has been claimed in unconfirmed Russian media reports that the cash found at Yevgeny Prigozhin’s St Petersburg office totalled 4bn roubles (£37m).
Reuters reports that Prigozhin said the money – found in cardboard boxes in vehicles near his office by the FSB security service – was to cover salaries and other expenses for his Wagner fighters.'
I can imagine his boys not being to happy at not getting paid. But I'll assume he's got more cash elsewhere.
- *too happyContinuity
- If the coup is successful, they are getting paid for suredrgs

Hope Nato's got containment strategy in place, because whether Prigozhin wins or loses this, Russia is about to become even more unpleasant to deal with.
- Agreed. If this coup is real, regional and global stability just became way more complicated.IRNlun6
- Yup. Especially when you consider Progozhin is absolutely not a pacifist. He's got chips on his shoulder, that one.Continuity
- Internally for Russia for sure, externally I think we won't notice muchdrgs

- Perhaps in the west but they are certainly not isolated internationally. India and China have flat out refused to embargo oil shipments from Russia.IRNlun6
- How much worse can it get? Consider Libya at a 100x scale with thousands of nuclear war heads. It could get considerably worse.IRNlun6
- How much worse? You've got Putin doubtless starting to feel like a cornered animal. And then you've got Prigozhin, who is just fucking nuts.Continuity
- And decidedly more trigger-happy than his former boss.
Yeah. It could possibly get much, much worse.Continuity

The Prigozhin Coup seems pretty damn well organized
OK we are about 12 hours into what is clearly an attempt by Yevgeny Prigozhin to topple the leadership of the Russian military (and very possibly the Russian government). This all started with an announcement by Prigozhin yesterday that the Russian army had launched a missile attack on a Wagner base—and it has snowballed exponentially since then. You can actually hear some of Prigozhin’s announcement here.
At first this attempt by Prigozhin seemed almost impulsive and bound to fail (and it still might—and probably should if the Russian army stays loyal to Putin). However, what does seem to be the case now is that this is a well-planned operation that has been a while in the making and has a greater chance of success that certainly I would have thought yesterday. If you look at the timing, the placement of Russian forces, the areas that Prigozhin has seized, and the fact that Putin was clearly caught of guard, you can see this. If you dont mind, I thought I would talk a little bit about why I think it is well organized and could succeed
- all that lack of ammo talk was highly likely just gathering ammo it seems...neverscared
