...or are you one of the many portable bluetooth speaker-only people?
My setup isn't fantastic (bit weird, actually):
Technics sa-ex140 amp. Cheap, but does the job - my Harman/Kardon died, and I didn't have money to replace it with something of a similar calibre at the time. I'll upgrade in the future.
Shitty Newmark turntable - a Technics 1210 knockoff (i rarely listen to vinyl)
Onkyo tape deck (yes, i use it, old tapes are a sample goldmine)
Technics CD player (occasionally used)Yamaha NS-20M speakers. These are the NS-10 big brothers. They are (at this point pretty old school-) studio monitors, so they double as studio equipment and just for listening. Extremely well-defined sound.

I got a beats pill+
- You and many of my friends are in that or a similar category.jagara
- It’s so sad :(monospaced

I got the same Technics sa-ex140 amp , SL1210 turntable and big ass Sony speakers.
A Sony amplifier and NS-10M Studio speakers.

I've had one of these for 25+ years. The tape deck is long dead but the rest is like new.

i'd rather listen to music on any modern mid priced bluetooth soundbar than yamaha NS-10s/20s you sadists :D
- I use the NS-10 to mix music, not "listening" ;)ApeRobot
- heh, i know. just funny to see sterile studio monitors as the first 2 examples of speakers that sound better than bluetooth speakers when you would strugglekingsteven
- to find a less pleasurable listening set-up for the price :D but i listen to most music on my studio monitors tookingsteven
- Ever hear a pair of NS-20's? Most people haven't. It's a pretty uncommon speaker. NS-10 sound pretty horrible.jagara
- So the 20 is way better than the 10, which are horrible?monospaced
- 2X bettermisterhow
- NS-20s sound extremely clear and well-defined (they're studio monitors after all). Big bass-unit. Pretty punchy.jagara
- i've used the big ones i think NS-100M? which are really nice. and I like NS-10s in studios. i just make a distinction between these and 'stereo system'kingsteven
- so the NS-20s are good studio monitors, but the same company's smaller studio monitors are horrible?monospaced
- yeah, I wouldn't recommend near field monitors for stereo listening in the home, just not really what they are good formonospaced
- which should IMO be a bit hyped (what i love about hearing music i've mixed on stereos). that, and i've heard some amazing bluetooth speakers recentlykingsteven
- sorry, was interrupted and had an hour between sidenotes there lolkingsteven
- but yeah i can see how NS20s would address almost all the irks of NS10s + on stands i imagine extends the bass even further.kingsteven
- I know my setup isn't ideal for home listening - I use them for music production. And then they double as listening speakers (I live in a small space).jagara

I have a Marantz receiver, an external amp, and a set of Polk speakers for movies and music in my den. For my living room we have a pair of Sonos Fives coupled HomePods for voice control.

I'm at the crossroads. I have a real stereo but my amp is dying and i'm not sure if it makes sense to have a fidelity heatsink in a manhattan apartment or if i should just get something fuzzy and loud to replace it with.
currently: B&W804 speakers, Classe 100w amp, Cal Audio Alpha dac. All sourced from streamed itunes for which the speakers on my imac seem to be my primary source of listening.

I have two NAD components and Jamo (?) speakers. The NAD system and the NAD app to control the system are really bad. I wish I never bought it.

I LOVE wired sound; no latency and the sound speaks for itself.
I too am tempted by the Bluetooth/Wireless offerings from PSB, Sonos, etc.
IF I bought new, I may at least explore the wireless offerings.
Although, I LOVE talking to old dudes about their audio preferences, allegiances to companies, etc.
AV for life.

Brushed aluminium for the win. Have a mid range Sony I bought in the late 90s. The deck it came with was really awful though, didn't realised how bad until I replaced it with a budget audio technica a few years back.
When the CD changer went faulty I couldn't find anything similar on the market so I managed to repair it ...and then bought another two systems for little money as back-up/spares and so I could have one in my studio too.
Replaced the CD lazer a couple of years ago and the tape belts. Its great that it is designed to be repaired and the repair manuals are online.
- lol, you’re in love with the look of vintage stereo equipment, but it isn’t “for the win” anymore for audiomonospaced
- Don’t get me wrong. I’m also nostalgic for that era, but we’ve come so far since.monospaced
- I'm not SO bothered about the looks ...it just does everything I need it too well enough for me to be happy with. I'm sure there are better options out there.webazoot

- What Sony studio speakers? Model?monospaced

don't have a sub, these are great.doesnotexist - the loudness switch is sickdoesnotexist
- Not to be rude, but those aren’t studio speakers. They also aren’t great, with a weird bass boost switch or not. Do yourself a favor man. Get real speakersmonospaced
- I’m saying this because you clearly invested in this 70s vintage stereo gear, which is discerning, and you’ve paired it with the worst speakers money can buy.monospaced

about a year or so ago, a good friend of mine from work was upgrading his whole stereo system... and just called me up and asked if my son wanted his old one... which is a super nice Sony system... so my son and I hooked it all up down in our basement... absolutely love it... must have been close to 20 years i didn't have a stereo.. it's nice to have one again... and my son has become a huge vinyl junkie... i gave him all my old albums to start, and now he's added a bunch to the collection... lots of Floyd, Zepplin and Tull, Rush, Cocteau Twins, Killing Joke etc... with some newer stuff like Tyler the creator, Kendrick, etc etc... lovely eclectic mix :)

- jeez that turntable. yikeshans_glib
- Turntable was a craigslist find about 15 years ago. It was pretty spendy and he wouldn't come down on the price but let me take 5 records from his huge classicfooler
- rock collection. I had to get it re wired twice because of a grounding issue. It works perfect now and worth 4xs what I have in it but I should have just boughtfooler
- a brand new turntable.fooler

Nothing too special or high end, but lovely tube power :)
A Bluetooth pre-amp for Spotify streaming through a Technics equalizer then going to a Chinese tube amp and KLH speakers

Ebay pic-
https://audiokarma.org/forums/in…I had the 901 speakers for years and they were a project i perpetually put off until the covid pandemic the eq had burned out and the surrounds were rotted.
The series IV EQ i replaced it with this thing: https://deercreekaudio.com/produ…
After a few youtube videos i decided to repair the surrounds myself... after about 3 drivers i got the hang of it this kit really helped...
https://www.simplyspeakers.com/b…
I probably need a new cartridge/needle for the JVC cuz records are sounding a bit dull off it so I've been using my laptop to stream music into the Tape/Amp Aux on the HK receiver until i I decide what cart to splurge on.
People love or hate the Bose 901's on the plus side they fill the room with sound... great for parties... not a lot of power needed to drive them either. i like their looks. They sound really good when i am streaming music. once i sort out the cartridge issu on the turntable i am hoping the records sound better on them.
