Is it paid gig? If its discounted job its always good to barter for creativity and more control over the project... Best you can do is tell her your opinion with best possible explanation for your solution and if she objects, then you can take a picture and use a photoshop filter such as watercolor or something to make it an illustration in 3 seconds.
