i have been in a similar situation. there was a color snapshot of the person in action and an illustration i made earlier. i advised the client to use neither. the poster i then created was based on a decent studio photography i treated with desaturated dichromatic tones. so it was sort of illustrated and bold but without the catchiness of an illustrator's interpretative style.
- in this case the client thanked me for thinking and explaining - you can't always expect that, though.arne
