"Ask the people of Juarez, who received the Mexican Military with jubilation, if they still want soldiers on their streets."
the people of juarez. want peace of course. but even with out the soldiers. juarez have always had huge fucking problems as far as i can remember. don't forget juarez has a huge population which is poor. so it's easy for the cartel to wave some cash and get some new members.
it's not the soldiers fault. it's the cartel. the cartel is the terrorist!

"Drug cartels in Mexico control approximately 70% of the foreign narcotics that flow into the United States.[18] The State Department estimates that 90% of cocaine entering the United States transits Mexico—Colombia being the main cocaine producer[19]—and that wholesale of illicit drug sale earnings estimates range from $13.6 billion to $48.4 billion annually."
That's a pretty big range but suppose you take the high end of that (70 of 48 billion). That means that Mexican drug cartels combined make more than Comcast, American Express, Coca Cola, and most other American companies.

I drove down to Ensenada this last weekend and had the best time. Drank with the locals, ate tons of good food and didn't see one head without a body. Am I missing something here?

"Purported leaders include Nazario Moreno Gonzalez, "El Mas Loco" (The Craziest), who is described as a religious zealot who carries a self-published collection of aphorisms (his "bible," authorities say) and insists that the group's traffickers and hit men lead lives free of drugs and alcohol.
Another leader, Dionicio Loya Plancarte, "El Tio" (The Uncle), is a former military officer. Both have million-dollar bounties on their heads.
They recruit at drug rehab centers and indoctrinate followers with an ideology akin to religious fundamentalism, complete with group prayer sessions. Some armed guards wear uniforms with the FM logo, witnesses say. Failure by a recruit to live by the rules is said to be punishable by death.
Moreno Gonzalez has also forbidden the sale and consumption of methamphetamine in Michoacan because it is such a destructive drug. It is for export only, primarily to the U.S. "

Mexican navy kills top cartel kingpin in 2 hr shootout
Arturo Beltran Leyva, the "boss of bosses," and six members of his cartel died in the shootout Wednesday in Cuernavaca, just south of Mexico City, according to a navy statement Thursday.
The body of one cartel member was found on the ground outside the third-floor apartment, after he apparently committed suicide during the shootout.
Cartel gunmen hurled grenades that killed one marine and wounded two others, one of whom is in serious condition, the navy said. Two women and one man were detained during the raid, and five assault weapons were seized.

At first glance I wonder why would anyone want to get involved with the cartels if there's a risk of torture or decapitation. Maybe the economy is so bad that's they're only way of making money. Hopefully the violence doesn't spread into the U.S. but if it does, let's hope it gets erradicated asap.
