- Resetting the SMC reminds of OS9 and the 1990s. What a crazy thing to have to do nowadays.nb
- Yeah, you never have to do anything like this on a Windows PC.monospaced

So.... does anyone use Chrome with Mavericks? I've been reading about Chrome being 32-bit only, Java 7 doesn't support 32-bit, and wondering if Chrome or Java (or, a 32-to-64 bit interpreter app of some kind) was making the computer run hot.
I've been using Safari today and keeping Chrome closed, and everything seems to be fine. Coincidence? Or is Chrome shit on Mavericks?
- Maybe it's one of my Chrome plug-ins? Although I don't have anything fancy in my Chrome. Just adblock & iReader.nb
- Do you actually use Java?animatedgif

Is it just me or is it apple still playing catch up with android/google?
- STILLmonospaced
- y'know, since they invented the modern smartphone OS, touch screens, icons, etcmonospaced
- Apple just copied them, and is still catching up. Can't even get a decent processor into their phones. Pathetic, right?monospaced
- I dont know about pathetic just concerned that it seems like they are playing catch up.teh

I think ill wait a couple months before upgrading to Mavericks.
Im still running snow leopard and CS4 on my home machine. Never any problems!
- you should probably stick with snow leopard and use your next computer with the new OSmonospaced
- Yeah, I'm sticking with Snow Leopard until I buy a new computer.nb

So a few quirks I'm noticing that may or may not be related to Mavericks:
1. Safari is not loading certain sites properly. On Amazon.com I can't click anything. All links, buttons, etc. do not function as links. Only the search bar works. Works fine in FF. PetCo.com and YouTube also don't fully load.
2. The wake function when my MBP is closed and connected to my Thunderbolt display is not working as of this morning. I have to unplug the Thunderbolt plug and plug it back in for the monitor to come on.
3. Not sure if it's related or not, but this weekend I used my external drive with a USB cable to work in Lightroom away from home. I normally connect via FireWire. Every 10th photo I looked at when sorting photos caused Lightroom to freeze and the beach ball to spin. I'm thinking this is related to a slower transfer speed, but not totally sure.
- my Thunderbolt display has that same issue, and it's on my work Mac that is still on Lionmonospaced
- I can't figure it out. Gonna restart and see if that solves it.mg33

Updated no problems. 1/2 hr download, 1/2 hr install. Everything is definitely faster, there's no question about that. Apps open/close much faster, boot times are faster, responsiveness is overall slick. The maps app is super stupid though, had to hid that and iBooks right away.
Immediately started using Airplay to extend my display via the Apple TV. Fun times. Whatever content on that screen sent audio through my home theater (youtube, spotify), while whatever was on my iMac screen played audio normally. It was a nice experience and much more efficient than my previous methods.
- The airplay update was my most coveted new item when i saw the releasefreakpelican
- i am very happy with how it actually works like i have wanted it to!! no more crappy adapters!freakpelican
- same here... the delay is annoying but manageable... after all it's sending HD video wirelessly in near-real-timemonospaced

I upgraded yesterday morning, like a moron, not reading up about the Adobe issues. My Adobe CC versions of After Effects and Premiere are fucked beyond all salvation. I tried the patches and got an error message.
This patch is not applicable for you. Please check for updates from the Help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available.
Yeah, that message would be helpful but I can't even get the program to even bounce once in the dock. I uninstalled AE and reinstalled it, tried the patch again and nothing works yet. I can live without Premiere easily but AE is a deal breaker. I'm stuck with CS6 for now. There's an update 12.1 coming soon. I'll have to fight another battle when that comes.
I never got Dreamweaver CC to work at all. I suspect that it's an issue with using FontBook to manage my fonts. That was another fault of mine.
I am seriously pissed at Apple right now.

i have dual monitors... everything is working fine except the command-tab menu appears on my other screen now... ... i don't like that... I can't figure out how to get back on my main screen
not a big deal but definitely one of those things that is silly-annoying
- You can move it easily in the system prefmonospaced
- where? i'm done looking (I think I put about 4 mins of effort into it)... guide me, monoPonyBoy
- on the two monitors, drag the menu bar to the one you wantmonospaced
- that just moves the main menu.. does nothing to move the 'command-tab' menu to opposite screenPonyBoy

Is it likely that a lot of the reports about slow computers after updating would be related to the caching and indexing? I find it odd that a minority report a slower experience after updating, while the vast majority report an increase.
- Can't speak for others, but it's the first time I've ever upgraded, as opposed to done a fresh installtwooh
- which I think plays a huge factor in speed when first operating it.twooh
- Indeed indexing and re-caching can take hours if you've got a ton of files. I do so I install and leave overnight.evilpeacock

yeah, it's more stable and faster on my old Mac Pro. And my model is the oldest one possible to get Lion and Mavericks on. Once they up the specs my machine is obsolete. Good excuse to buy new toys.
- I think I'll update tonight. My iMac is from Late 2012.monospaced
- i have a 2-3 yr old iMac as well but holding off for now until i hear more about any issuesprophetone
