Updated no problems. 1/2 hr download, 1/2 hr install. Everything is definitely faster, there's no question about that. Apps open/close much faster, boot times are faster, responsiveness is overall slick. The maps app is super stupid though, had to hid that and iBooks right away.
Immediately started using Airplay to extend my display via the Apple TV. Fun times. Whatever content on that screen sent audio through my home theater (youtube, spotify), while whatever was on my iMac screen played audio normally. It was a nice experience and much more efficient than my previous methods.
- The airplay update was my most coveted new item when i saw the releasefreakpelican
- i am very happy with how it actually works like i have wanted it to!! no more crappy adapters!freakpelican
- same here... the delay is annoying but manageable... after all it's sending HD video wirelessly in near-real-timemonospaced

- Resetting the SMC reminds of OS9 and the 1990s. What a crazy thing to have to do nowadays.nb
- Yeah, you never have to do anything like this on a Windows PC.monospaced

Running Safari instead of Chrome all day, along with PS, DW and ID CS5. No kernel_task problem yet, and the fan hasn't needed to run. Just ran an online Java game for a while (Java 7 installed) in Safari and it has no problem at all. Makes me think it's a Chrome or 32-bit issue.

I've got to say, after a day of hating on it, it's growing on me, and it actually feels faster now after it finishes caching, and indexing. Very impressive.

hey mono... my command-tab menu-thingy still won't move when I move the menu-thing from my screen-thingy to my other screen-thingy in the keyboard menu-thing... fix it.

Is it likely that a lot of the reports about slow computers after updating would be related to the caching and indexing? I find it odd that a minority report a slower experience after updating, while the vast majority report an increase.
- Can't speak for others, but it's the first time I've ever upgraded, as opposed to done a fresh installtwooh
- which I think plays a huge factor in speed when first operating it.twooh
- Indeed indexing and re-caching can take hours if you've got a ton of files. I do so I install and leave overnight.evilpeacock

yeah, it's more stable and faster on my old Mac Pro. And my model is the oldest one possible to get Lion and Mavericks on. Once they up the specs my machine is obsolete. Good excuse to buy new toys.
- I think I'll update tonight. My iMac is from Late 2012.monospaced
- i have a 2-3 yr old iMac as well but holding off for now until i hear more about any issuesprophetone

OMG, holding down the command key in the Finder when opening a folder now opens the folder in a new tab instead of a new window. Can some explain the reasoning behind this change?!? It seems to me the ONLY reason to command-double-click a folder would be because you want to open a new window so you can drag some files from one window to the other. NO?

does anybody know what's up with opening / saving files in CS5?
if i open a file and then go to open another, instead of the modal window automatically being in the same directory of the file i last opened, it defaults to "documents," often leading to a clumsy navigation to the folder i was in seconds earlier.
the same goes for saving - when i save a file now, and then go to save the next, it doesn't default to the previously opened folder but rather the docs menu.
this is just a pain in the ass / moderate time waster, wouldn't mind knowing what's up if anyone has a clue.

i upgraded from 10.6.8 and this is distractingly terrible
slows the machine down for sure (2 yr old 27" imac)
