All this drama over start button vs no start button make me laugh
How hard is it to program that in, considering it already existed in Windows previously?
They should have shipped Win 8 with the start button disabled by default and then given users the option to enable if they wanted to.
- They wanted to try something new and kill it. Users just wont have it.ETM

Now they are removing the "charms" menu from Windows too...

I never got the people bitching about not having the start button. The whole UI is the start button, you change-averse neanderthals! :)

You windows guys are pathetic!
You don't even have a start button!* checks osx for start button *

It's not the start menu, as much as the OS is a dog. I use Windows as much as OSX, and OSX is faster and nicer to use. The Windows machine is slightly faster as well. I mean, it's a known fact that you need to re-install Windows every year or so.
Windows needs a ground up re-design starting with the kernel. You shouldn't need a hex editor to remove a print driver. Application data shouldn't be stored in 15 different places, and installations should be contained (like on OSX).

What? I haven't reinstalled Windows in 14 years! That's ridiculous.
Well, unless you just surf porn for hours and accumulate gobs of spyware and other junk.To each their own, I personally don't like OSX.

@section_014 - As a Windows (and Mac) user for almost 20 years I haven't had to do that old school crap like reinstall every year or so since Windows 7 came out. You still running 98 or something? :) Unless you are mad into malware filled porn sites, that shouldn't be necessary.
Windows 9 will likely sell better (UI of Win 8 aside) as it's on the tick of the tick tock upgrade cycle. A lot more Windows 7 users will be looking to upgrade this round.

Shouldn't it be Windows 14 or even 15? Ever since Windows 2000, the Y2K bug fugged with their naming conventions.

So does Windows render text nicely yet? Every time I stumble upon a PC I almost vomit from all the 90's aliased text.
- Sadly they still shit the bed in this department.monospaced

File explorer icon has been made more 2D, I reckon they decided to do that to hint to the fact that they'll all get a refresh
