To buy or not to buy? that is the question.
Have existing 2010 one running well but...
Do I buy a new one now or is there another version launching soon I should wait for?

its 2011 model
- zaq0
Wait until June.
Rumors are it will have better display, equivalent to 4K.
Current version hasn't seen much improvement compared to previous except speed.

hmmm all i hear is the high likelihood of a new Air and iOS 8 reveal soon, they retina'd out the MBs "recently"
- the air doesn't really concern most people in the design dept thoughMiguex

I've been hearing about some 12" model in the works.
- prophetone0
yeah they'll probs punt the lil non-retina brother and make the whole line retina and up the specs ever so slightly is my guess
- Who can work on a 12" screen. I don't care what the resolution is.CyBrainX

so June?
i'm running a 2009 model here, and it's getting a bit long in the tooth...
it's done it's time for king and country....time for an upgrade....
was wondering the same thing...fairly sure i can hold out til June....will they revamp the 15" model as well?

It's funny, my 2011 MBP is still zooming along. I'd love a new one for the sake of getting a new one, but it's not to feel like I don't at all need one.

they released an updated 15" retina MBP not too long ago... i wouldn't expect a new one any time soon. People had been waiting for that update for quite a long time (myself included). While i think they might make the AIR a retina screen i don't see the 15" getting an update for at least another year.
- i have it and it smokes my old mac pro like no person's personal businessprophetone
- same here! Best computer i've ever owned.bogue

According to macrumors, they're making an update to the air's next week.

I'd go ahead and upgrade - There will always be something new "about" to come out. My 2010 17" macbook pro went tits-up a few months ago. Damn thing was too big and heavy to carry around anyway. Went with a 13" macbook pro w/ 16GB RAM and a SSD. Fucking thing zooms.

"Need to have" = Buy it immediately.
"Nice to have" = Wait.

Wait a few years, I hear they have something pretty cool in the works.

Im still using my 2007 model. If it works it's good enough for me. I do have some issues with it but nothing critical. It still functions.
- You running any CS software?citizen_h
- CS4 I believe. Yeah Im behind, whatever. Still works find. Upgraded the RAM though.CygnusZero4

Good time to buy a refurb.
Just stuck 16gb ram in my 17" MBP (2011) for under $200 and it's zooming. Apple will tell you 8gb is the limit but 16 is fine.

from your 2011 model lots of the new ones are a good upgrade, i also need a new mbp.. im using the original version from 2005 with original OS 80gig hard drive.. for me an upgrade would be light years ahead.
- akiersky0
according to http://buyersguide.macrumors.com…
it looks like you should wait a bit

I'm using a 2007 Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo. Upgraded to 6GB RAM.
Still using the original hard drive!
I do have a few external drives for backing up and storage of files, of course. But the internal drive has held up for 7 years! At one point I put a hybrid drive in it, but it started on fire. I had to replace a cable that burned, then I just put the old drive back in. No problems at all.
I've been using this computer every day since it was new and I run CS5 (mostly PS/AI/ID/DW), Lightroom 4 and occasionally FCP7. Since installing mavericks, it's quite slow for boot up and shut down, but while I'm working it is fine.
Going to pick up an SSD today or tomorrow and I'm hoping that gets me back up to fast speeds.
- Those are capable of running Mavericks but tend to just die when least expected.raf
- I had the experience RAF described. My 2007 MBP just powered down one day like I had shut it down. The motherboard failed and it was too expensive to repair ($1100)Josev

nb damn! i should give it a little boost as well. had been thinking of getting the new one in june.
2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
4 GB 1067 MHzThings are a little slow... running ID, PS, and AI all at once...
i've had my macbook since 2009
can't believe it's still ticking.

So retina Macbook Air is coming soon?
- Who knows but would make senseprophetone
- do professionals use MB Air?ohhhhhsnap
- not reallyprophetone
- Unlikely. The thing about retina is that it needs a good video card to run, and they aren't cheap.nb
- Apple only recently upgraded the rMBP 13" to have a proper video card to handle the screens.nb
- Seems like a retina MBA would push the cost up pretty high.nb
