Booked a demo this week.
My big question is whether this version is primarily an entertainment consumption device. Or, will it be useful for my design work? And I don’t mean this silly example we’ve seen of 4 giant monitors and a clock and a stock ticker in my space while I write emails.
What I want to know is, would this have a significant, positive effect on my design process and output? The way a Wacom tablet or iPad Pro does.
I work in software design so prototyping is very realistic on typical devices. I could easily see the Vision Pro being a game changer for something like car UI design prototyping. But for regular old apps? I’m intrigued.
- Useful for work, LOLzutopian
- I can already imagine it being a game changer for any product design that is physical or spatial. Not sure why the lolz. Have you used it?nb
- I've started to use the Oculus for some 3D stuff, not sure it is necessary but I enjoy walking round designs I've made in 3D. Also to test AR thingsPhanLo
- My understanding is that Apple is going to focus on the work aspect of this moving forward, with entertainment as an attractor.monospaced
- Whether it will help with design, it's hard to say. It might depend entirely on companies like Adobe to figure that one out.monospaced
- I joined a FB group that's mostly people who bought one. Several are raving about it for work, graphic work, photo editing. One guy loves it for stock trading.mg33
- They insist all marketing call it "spatial computing" and prohibit calling it a VR or AR experience. I hope they stick to this differentiator.monospaced
- I own the MetaQuest2 and for me its just a curiosity, dont spend 3000$ on this thinking you will work with it. It will end up collecting dust for many peopleHAL9001
- You can't really compare the two. Meta Quest isn't made for work, at all. It doesn't even have eye or hand tracking. At all.monospaced
- nb, you're not alone.. I'm curious as hell about what it would be like to do design work using this thing...exador1
- Apple first releases are as much for developers as anyone. A chance to crack it open and see how they can use it. Curious to hear your thoughts after demo.stoplying
- Let us know tech bro!ideaist
- Front page downvotesnb
- i'm starting to get more intrigued about it the more i've seen reviews. it'll hugely depend on what the developer community come up with I reckon.ephix
- also curious. but I doubt I'll ever own a headset due to both its cost and that it's so isolatinginteliboy
- @mono Meta Quest 2 do have hand tracking, and the Meta Quest 3 is even betterHAL9001
- Maybe in 10 years...even then, the effort it'll take to move your hands around, etc., just seems far too much to a task you can with your hand in half an inch.formed
- @Monospaced, I can imagine this would have helped while you were working on that trade show exhibit last year.CyBrainX

Here's a video of Mark Zuckerberg telling us what he think about the Vision Pro and compares it to the Meta Quest 3 (who cost 7 times less than Vision Pro!)
- how did they made him look human?sted
- Meta 3 buttfucks AVPcrazyprick
- Both can fuck off.Wordsworth

- I personally don't think old Zucky comes off too bad in this video. He concedes somethings that Apple got right, but points out the flaws without...stoplying

Apple fans are starting to return their Vision Pros
/ Comfort, headache, and eye strain are among the top reasons people say they’re returning their Vision Pro headsets.
- 100% lack of pornsted

- What did you think would happen with a useless piece of technology?utopian
- Because their SOs are pissed they spent $4kGnash
- Friend of mine did VR research in the 90's at Sun Microsystems; Eye strain, headaches, discomfort were the problems that kept them from shipping anything!evilpeacock

Here is what I do not understand at all about this:
Apple's main selling point is overpriced products, but you're paying for the look.
You're paying for sleek design, possibly even for a client to be like "oh look what's on his desk". But it's about the look. That is Apple. That is all it has ever been.
I saw one in the wild, and it was the dorkiest clunk shit I have ever seen. It triggered some primal urge to rob the guy, and I'm no thief.
- Fuck Apple, but I'm pretty sure it's more than the look. They do some things really, really well, and I'm not talking about buttfucking their retarded fanboys.crazyprick
- lol I know that feeling_niko
- what cp said... especially about the buttfucking part (but def agree Apple produced more than a pretty facade)PonyBoy
- the issue here is Apple has excelled at sleek tech on products that have marketshare. cellular phones when they entered the market was a huge spacejonny_quest_lives
- producing a revolutionary smartphone 2-3 years ahead of the competition was lightning in a bottle.jonny_quest_lives
- now they are entering a crowded VR space that has always been fringe demo product that every tech company has tried and come to the hard realizationjonny_quest_lives
- that mmersive tech is really cool for about 30 to 40 minutes then the user starts to get uncomfortable as strapping shit to your head gets uncomfortablejonny_quest_lives
- I am telling you kids the future is knobs and tactile inputs... teenage engineering is onto somethingjonny_quest_lives
- +1 johnny. And the future is knobs, there's hope for us yet.MrT
- the space Apple's entering is crowded with gaming rigs, and Apple's creating a separate space for getting shit donemonospaced
- Just because everyone else hasn't gone beyond what you call fringe doesn't mean Apple can't. They've done it many times before.monospaced
- Apple's space is a void of PO aimed at lazy people who have more money than sense, not people who can actually work on their own tech.garbage
- Their innovation years stopped at the iPhone and the Retina. Everything else they've done is "these suckers will pay for anything."garbage

I watched Casey Niestat's video about the Vision Pro and all I kept thinking about was what an easy target this guy would be to pickpocket, rob, whatever, while wearing a headset. I don't think I'd ever feel safe or comfortable wearing something like this out in a crowded area.
- i usually like casey's videos when tom sachs does them first.jonny_quest_lives
- that was mean... i am sorry.jonny_quest_lives
- You can still see out of it. And hear. It’s not an isolation chamber.monospaced
- Casey doesnt pay for half the stuff he got, i dont think he would cry if someone steals his Vision ProHAL9001
- 14 day return window... create your engagement farming content/video then go back to the apple store and say it burst a blood vessel in your eye.jonny_quest_lives
- =pure profit in the attention economyjonny_quest_lives
- "Why I returned the Vision Pro" videos inbound. "don't forget to hit that Like and Subscribe button"jonny_quest_lives

Did the in-store guided demo this week.
As a designer, I have a few immediate insights that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere. As usual, the coverage is surface-level and misses the point
- Remember the OG iPhone coverage? I recall a lot of “can Apple convince consumers to give up the physical keyboard?” as if that was relevantnb
- unless your off the grid a phone whether it be smartphone or analog was/is a necessity. not sure an experiential input output peripheral is comparablejonny_quest_lives
- the most interesting use i can think of for the vision pro would be on set cinematography playback where you can rough the in theter experience between takes.jonny_quest_lives
- have a rough color grade on actor takes in a simulated screen for director playback but that too is a niche use case.jonny_quest_lives
- If you haven’t demoed the device, do not make the mistake of thinking you have any idea of what it will or won’t benb
- at $3599 i already know it's a non starter as entry level consumer device which is where Apple historically attempted to land their devicesjonny_quest_lives
- https://x.com/K_A_N_…jonny_quest_lives
- entry-level starter device??? U trollin?nb
- not trolling i said months ago if Apple truly believed in the AR space they would have sold it at a loss... ship it at $999 and the conversation changesjonny_quest_lives
- they are only sitting on $73.10 Billion cash on hand... they can eat the loss but now they are stuck with headlines like:jonny_quest_lives
- "Apple fans are starting to return their Vision Pros"jonny_quest_lives
- "Apple Vision Pro users return $3.5K headsets, say they cause extreme headaches, motion sickness: ‘Like a torture session’jonny_quest_lives
- price the stupid thing according to what most users would use it for which is media consumption & if one of the selling points is view movies on 100 foot screenjonny_quest_lives
- then you in home theater territory competing against LED screens so $999-$1299 is relative to what an average consumer will stomach for an 85" tvjonny_quest_lives
- Sighnb
- their next best consumer use case is 'virtual meetings" but Zoom already won that battlefield destroying cisco's whole telepresence footprintjonny_quest_lives
- Tim Cook talked about this project being Apple's moonshot but that price tag screams lack of confidence.jonny_quest_lives
- Launch Prices: imac:$1299 phone1:$499 ipad:$499 Apple Watch: $350 not counting the $10000 version they promptly droppedjonny_quest_lives
- "if you haven’t demoed the device, do not make the mistake of thinking you have any idea of what it will or won’t be"jonny_quest_lives
- you've demo'd it what does it do that will overcome real word market/financial constraints and the current launch nosedive apple is experiencingjonny_quest_lives
- "wait for version 2" or "it's magical untll it isn't" aren't exactly the marketing pull quotes they wantedjonny_quest_lives

How can they stop people from making immersive videos of the adult variety, available for download?
- App store content policy?grafician
- Sure. It can record immersive video too, and Apple can’t stop that from being shared.monospaced
- iPhone 15 Pro can record immersive vids toonb
- I've seen people on FB talking about how to get around the way it prevents 360 video on websites in Safari, which is keeping all the VR porn sites from workingmg33
- They already have squirting instructional XXX videos...sooooformed
- Wasn't VHS more successful over Betamax because porn primarily used the VHS format?YakuZoku
- ^ I think that's a bit apocryphal, in the same way porn 'built the internet'. Japanese cos adopted VHS to compete with Sony so players were cheap and plentiful.monNom
- mg331
I've never even seen VR porn but people found a workaround for it on the Vision Pro. Apple will never allow adult apps into the App Store and there's no way they can exclusively block porn in Safari. What's weird is that the fix below is required to watch ANY 360 VR videos in Safari.

The First VR Squirting Video Shot Specifically for Apple Vision Pro Is Here
- sted0
- $3599 to replace: Length x width = area?jonny_quest_lives
- Totally because that’s literally all it does. All it does is measure wall area and for $3600 that’s so stupid. You are so smart Jonnymonospaced
- Of course Apple regards will of course pay $3600 to use this tool when all they needed was a measuring tape. That’s pure Apple marketing of course.monospaced
- But Jonny, nothing gets past you. You’ll stick to that free tape measure grandpa gave you and won’t spend money on this overpriced area finder tool. So smart.monospaced
- :))) ahah that was good mono. i just bought a domain, and started to collect use cases.
@jonny_quest_lives if you found anything useful related please share.sted - most handyman carpente's scarpa by on margins on a job by job basis and aren't large conglomerates etimating jobs is baked into their fucking job description.jonny_quest_lives
- joe shmuckatelli isn't gonna run down to the apple store to by a vision pro to hand off to his paint estimator as he usually is the paint estimator.jonny_quest_lives
- all these solutions are like selling falling leaves in autumn...jonny_quest_lives
- maybe it could be a sales tool for premiere clients allowing them to see their house painted before work starts but AR on a mobile device can do that toojonny_quest_lives
- $3 to $10,000k to paint a house exterior last time we did it was $5k cuz the contractor had to do EPA Lead mitigation.jonny_quest_lives
- dude rolled up with a clipboard... quoted us crew was out a week later done in two days.jonny_quest_lives
- https://www.pcapaint…jonny_quest_lives
- the vision pro is a premiere tool whose tech will eventually just get baked into your phone as far as tte sensor tech goes..jonny_quest_lives
- it would have to $499 and a lot more rugged to be aa jobsite tool as replaceable a hammer if Doug dropped it on the jobsitejonny_quest_lives
- I'm not looking at this product or any innovative tool like that. It is a product what needs real world applications.sted
- These applications are obviously rudimentary at this time but that isn't what matters. it's how the device features are utilized is that really matters.sted
- in any event what is one naysayer's opinion in the hero's journey? be bold! perhaps the vision pro is Apple's moonshot.jonny_quest_lives
- Now if I where you I would think about how can we use that book to create a new tool what involves this device and replaces other tools in the process.sted
- That is how I think each and every time.sted
- one of the more "exciting" construction news is actual a resurgence in prefab specifically for high rises...jonny_quest_lives
- where u lose money on jobs is unexpected site specific issues if u can eliminate site specific issues with lego like prefab modules u reduce costsjonny_quest_lives
- in material and expertise as your workforce has already preinstalled wiring and plumbing for each modulejonny_quest_lives

https://www.fullstac…jonny_quest_lives - ikea on steroids they can probably even preload the the furniture in flat packs it's all a bit dystopian but fascinatingjonny_quest_lives
