to make that single product the focus
BMW for instance... the 3 series appeals to a certain market, but it's kinda hard to talk up it's benefits when there's a 5, 6 and 7 series right next to it, all with more and fancier features than the 3.
keeping the product range isolated allows them to tell the one story, without any distractions.
