Because I want to have a playlist for the album and the single.
As horton pointed out, the information is stored in the mp3 file, so if I drag the song in iTunes to another playlist, it's just a duplicate of the original. I can't change any of the file information without it affecting all of the copies.
So in your example, if I copy the fifth track from the album to the single's playlist, it retains all of the album information - it will have a different album name (and possibly year) than the b-sides. In other words, it won't be organized correctly.
