"...but I am interested in hearing people's takes on their own relationships - what has worked and what hasn't, and why."

Well I split up from my girlfriend of four-and-a-half years over Xmas. We were best friends and perfectly suited to each other. We lived together for just over 2 years and could have settled down together and had kids. There was 1 problem. We lived in the Guildford (South East) but were from Plymouth (the South west) where our families are from and she was very homesick. She moved back and wanted me to move back with her, but as much as I love the SW, there are is no career for a designer there and I couldn't see how I could be fully happy being there after having worked in London etc. So we decided to end it. We got back together 4 months after on a long distance thing but we decided we ultimately wanted different things and finished it for good over Xmas. As I write this I can see I have probably given up the most important thing in the world for pretty much nothing. I don't regret it as I am sure that one day I'll look back on that decision and feel it was the right one.

Anyway, the point of the above is that... well I don't know. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe I am destined to marry Liv Tyler after all. Come 'ere cutie!
