i live about 45 minutes from montauk. there's not much going on there right now. i go camping out in hither hills every summer but right now, i wouldn't recommend it. it might be cool since it'll be empty but you'll also be traveling most of the day. staying overnight wouldn't be bad. most of the hotels out there are expensive but there are some bed and breakfast places that are cheap, especially in the off-season.
