    I dunno if the LIRR has expanded or not, but the last stop on the LIRR is in Matituck which is on the south fork. Montauk is on the north-so even if you take the RR, you would still have to find a way to drive over to the north fork.

    Also, if you do make it out there, check out Camp Hero. It used to be this huge abandoned air force base. Some friends and I used to go exploring there. We camped out on the huge building that has the radar dish, tons of underground bunkers to run around in. It's a state park now from what I've read. And watch out for a drunk driving Billy Joel too.
