It's not the fact that the bible doesnt contain great poetry, or inspiring tales of wisdom that illuminate the mysteries of the human condition, or that there is some great advice for all parts of life, that have been condensed from generations of intelligent civilised peoples,
but that
those writings are BY those people, and them alone, not to detract from the poetic and artistic vision and thread that runs through the bible, but it is ONLY that, a creative thread, and it was not, in whole or part dictated from some unproven, unseen other author,
that the rest of us see as obvious and get somewhat weary of the constant attempts by religious people to convince us of.
It's not that we don't understand it, it's that we don't believe it.
The bible is irrefutably a collection of some of the greatest works of literature mankind has ever produced.
