Myself and team have been working on this project solid for a couple months now. Functionally, it's still in beta, but it's working pretty well. You have to register to receive a trial of the online text (this is where we put in most of the work).
Let me know if you have any thoughts.*

Jesus, there's a lot to it!
Your self-estimation in the approach comparison comes across quite smug.
Clicking 'about' or 'community' does nothing - where it does with the other tabs? I'd have a very basic rundown when I click on 'About'.
i think 'community' is slightly mis-representational. It's a blog and an option to spam.
The downloads section could be a little glitzier.I've got this far and just now realised you want a crit on the bit that requires registration. Damn. No thanks.
ps. (here comes my anti-religious railing) 'The truth made clear'? That's a lie, which I'm pretty sure isn't a Christian thing to do. I often wonder what Jesus would think of efforts such as these - I'm sure he'd rather corporations spent their money helping their fellow man rather than further inflating the so-called Good Book into yet more produkt.
- you get banned?Jnr_Madison
- Don't know what you're talkin' about, guvn'nor.

"*not looking to get into religious debates"...
Simply looking for ways to spread one point of view whilst explicitly requesting that no others be heard, then ?
- I'm looking for opinions on the site itself, not the content of the site. I'm not taking away your right to a view on the bible itself, start your own thread. Knock yourself out.planet01
- ... start your own thread. I'd be glad to discuss.planet01
- heh :)mikotondria3
- sorry, I just can't get past the content itself. It's like asking if the bread of a shit sandwich is nice. No offence.mikotondria3

How is it that the 10 commandments and a load of good advice get inflated into so much crap?
Don't kill people, don't worship false idols, love thy neighbour, don't show off your charity, treat others as you'd like to be treated yourself, etc etc - all good stuff. Does it really need ALL THAT TEXT?! All this ... hot air?

i'm curious why you use a strict doctype? you have 170 validation errors and 100 warnings on the home page.
- Hmmm... I'll check that out. Thanks.planet01
- god did it.mikotondria3

I like it, planet01, although I can't offer technical criticism because I avoid development like the plague. I love the Bible, and having used the site for a few minutes, I'm impressed. I really like the lightbox maps superimposed over the scripture – good juxtaposition, and smart graphically.
Don't let any intolerant creeps get to you with reflexive vitriol. ("And He looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts.")

- You are making a lot of presumptions here. Can you really speak to where the profit goes for sales of these Bibles? You're way off here.
- if the book is just words then yeah, it's useless.richardkark
- but if it's just words, Jesus was just a man, and Christianity isn't anything of worth.richardkark

There's absolutely nothing hucksterish about providing online Biblical resources, anymore than there is in the Chicago manual of style or Webster's dictionary having an online presence. People want info, someone should put it out there.
There is also nothing wrong with redesigning the Bible, giving consideration to scale, format, textures, materials, paper, typography, maps, etc...when things like that are handled appropriately, it can lead to a hightened sense of reverence in the minds of readers. It shows that someone respected the content enough to give it a beautiful form.
I personally would throttle an atheist (OK OK, just a little but not doing permanent damage, thou shalt not kill etc. etc.) to have a shot at designing the Bible. That's on my short list of career goals.
planet01: Overall I like it. Trade Gothic was a sensible choice for heads/tabs. A few things:
The "About" tab doesn't quite line up with your headline below.
I would recommend changing the HTML default font to prefer Georgia. Georgia is like Miller for the screen (both designed by Matthew Carter, and both would be quite suitable for a printed or online Bible – nice subtle reference to Reformation-Era typography).
- good catch on the alignment.
I do usually go with Georgia for web, I thought Times lined up with Traditional bible fonts.planet01 - with Traditional bible fonts. I might be regretting that choice.planet01
- Georgia,
Georgia - the whole paage thru
(the whole page thru...)mikotondria3

Anaim, I humbly suggest you read the Bible, then tell us if it really is a lot of "hot air." You might be surprised. It's got everything from parables to straight history to erotic poetry. Not kidding about the erotic part, Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs depending upon the version) is hawt. A lot of talk about boobs. It's good reading.
It's deep, too...the more you read, the more you comprehend. It's amazing to sit under a gifted preacher and hear the wealth of observations and insights they can glean from Scripture.
- straight history = plain ol' history, rather than the history of straight people.gramme

absolutely.
Religion has never been associated with intolerance and reflexive vitriol. Galileo was hailed as a genius for expanding on the word of god, and gay people help us see ourselves in a new light and enrich society, don't they ? You're all so sanctimonious, it constantly pisses me right off.
Gramme is a nice guy with whom I often find myself laughing or agreeing with, however.

I have to pay to read the bible online?
- mikotondria30
It's not the fact that the bible doesnt contain great poetry, or inspiring tales of wisdom that illuminate the mysteries of the human condition, or that there is some great advice for all parts of life, that have been condensed from generations of intelligent civilised peoples,
but that
those writings are BY those people, and them alone, not to detract from the poetic and artistic vision and thread that runs through the bible, but it is ONLY that, a creative thread, and it was not, in whole or part dictated from some unproven, unseen other author,
that the rest of us see as obvious and get somewhat weary of the constant attempts by religious people to convince us of.
It's not that we don't understand it, it's that we don't believe it.
The bible is irrefutably a collection of some of the greatest works of literature mankind has ever produced.
- pizzafire0
god has the internet now?
- gramme0
Perhaps, and yet perhaps not miko...I'm not sure you can prove beyond reasonable doubt that it is definitely NOT the inspired word of God. That is strictly a matter of faith rather than historical evidence...it's not like we can archaeologically document the brilliant flash of light that was photographed onto Moses or Paul's scrolls when the angel showed up with his nuggets of verbal gold.

The question is: Are there legitimate reasons to believe it IS the word of God?
I find that most people don't take the time to explore this question. AndiIt renders their claim that it isn't, a naked assertion and not an argument.

If you read the Bible, you'll find that religion is people trying to clean themselves up for God, but true relationship with God is wrestling with God and learning that God is good.
