    There are two main different tracking methods.

    1. JavaScript - Google analytics
    2. Log files - server log files

    These use very different methods of tracking so you will get different number. You will even get different numbers from two different log files readers reading the same log file. The important thing is the patterns of traffic. This should not be too different no matter what method of tracking you use.

    i.e. traffic on weekdays vs weekends.

    I find that using percentages rather than numbers works a lot better.
