yea, i'd think that google analytics (get it if you don't got it) would be the better resource since they are in the business of collecting information about user browsing.

stat counter is better because you can show it at the bottom of each page and let everyone know how popular your site is. you should also sign up to some webrings and stuff. you will get lots of traffic and even more stats and stuff.

i generally use an onload script that sends me an email everytime the page is loaded. i then count the emails by hand and tally them up on a keen notepad i've got at my desk. i do all of this while listening to the beauty and the beast theme song on repeat.
- that's a lot of cataloging work... but i bet you could make a little money on your script.anxiousarms

There are two main different tracking methods.
1. JavaScript - Google analytics
2. Log files - server log filesThese use very different methods of tracking so you will get different number. You will even get different numbers from two different log files readers reading the same log file. The important thing is the patterns of traffic. This should not be too different no matter what method of tracking you use.
i.e. traffic on weekdays vs weekends.
I find that using percentages rather than numbers works a lot better.

For one thing Google does not count crawlers / robots or however they call them. Other thing could be a difference in the interval that they use between unique hits/views.
