  You mean SAD lights?

  One of my project plans for the mid to near future is to make a combined SAD light /bed stand type thing, and in looking into it I learned that a range of standard energy saving CFLs actually emit small amounts of UV, whereas incandescent ones didn't (really, anyway). This kind of tallies with research out recently suggesting that CFLs shouldn't be used directly as desk lamps, as they could provide as much UV over a day as the sun. Quite why we're suddenly so paranoid of the sun, after nearly 4000 million years of peaceful co-existence, I don't know, but anyway.
