hmmmm, i was just wondering, you know you can get bulbs / lights to heat or mimic the sun , designed for say, a pet reptile or whatever.
Like this :
http://www.expertvillage.com/vid…Anyone ever tried to use these as studio lights for cine or stills film work ?, hmmm, cause i was just thinking it might be quite interesting..

You mean SAD lights?
One of my project plans for the mid to near future is to make a combined SAD light /bed stand type thing, and in looking into it I learned that a range of standard energy saving CFLs actually emit small amounts of UV, whereas incandescent ones didn't (really, anyway). This kind of tallies with research out recently suggesting that CFLs shouldn't be used directly as desk lamps, as they could provide as much UV over a day as the sun. Quite why we're suddenly so paranoid of the sun, after nearly 4000 million years of peaceful co-existence, I don't know, but anyway.

The thing the guy is holding is just a red incandescent spot.

I don't think the tempreture of the bulb should matter dramatically because that can be edited afterwards anyway. Unless you're using something for example, like incandecent lights which are so far from neutral that they change color drastically to the point where getting back to neutral can look messy

thanks kalkal, i dont understand your complex answer,.. so do you think these lights are strong enough to work in the studio, for (cine) film ?, without going into the finer details, no offence, you genius!

Well I made a ring flash with 8x100w bog standard bulbs so I don't see any reason why you couldn't.
Only problem is, with such intense light perminently on (which mine was), you tend to blind your subjects resulting in some interesting expressions

newsflash,
1) the lights probably don't have high enough output in terms of wattage, and
2) as kalkal said, the colour temp of the lights won't matter much because you white balance accordingly.
Unless I've completely misunderstood the question...- 2) i dont understand , but 1) is probably correct cheersNEWSFLASH
