they found out how to boot into linux on any ps3 without any dongles. just jailbraking it.

they managed to do that by hacking through different levels of security, their most notable finding is that the random-number used by sony to generate signing keys is not very random:
it took them about the same amount of time as for an xbox or other consoles if you count from the moment on, when sony dropped the linux support.
